A Conversation With My Mom

(My mom saw me cleaning up a pencil drawing)
Mom: Did you draw this for someone?
Me: Yes, he ask me for a request.
Mom: Oh, how much do you earn per drawing?
Me: Just USD$5.
Mom: WHAT? Why such low price?
Me: I have a job currently, I don't draw much recently and I don't have good reputation. So that's the price I decided...
Mom: You should have charge higher, you just lower your value!
Me: *speechless*

I just can't put a price on my art myself.
You have the quality. It would be worth buying for like... $10-25
You do very good cartooning - worth a good price for the workmanship. I think it is also good to be able to do work for yourself. (A way to work & experiment.) Being able to share gifts is also good.
When and where to be 'professional' in billing for your work & costs is a problem I have had, and it is also a problem many other cartoonists have.
But you always can set what you want. Just don't undersell or you might end up being skipped because people might worry about the cost being so low.
At your artist skills right now. The commission line-art would be at least 10-15$ per a non-colored ink. With 5$ extra for an extra character.
But hey. You charge how you want to charge for commissions. You even may do great special deals from time to time.
Your mom is absolutely correct. There's nothing wrong with charging $10-$20 for a sketch. I mean, it's still not very much, but you're highly skilled. Plus, you deserve it!
Though that last comment she made was kind of hurtful
Then again, I've personally have taken more or less priceless view of point on most of the things...
