Stories

Lately there seems to be a conspiracy of people asking about my written works.
While I do consider myself more capable at writing than art and music, I haven't much considered posting my stories.
Writing doesn't seem to be well supported on FA. Indeed, compared to artists, writers tend to be treated as red haired step children most anywhere. But it doesn't really seem like a target for FA at all. I'm not sure if there's really an audience for stories here.
But probably more than that... I feel nervous that my writing is a little too much of a raw look into myself. More than the artist or musician, the author is naked before the audience. And I'm a little too accustomed to being shunned once a little too much is known about me. I'm not sure how much I dare show.
I have quite a few stories that sit on my hard drive. And I don't really show them to anyone.
Some of them delve into subjects that would frankly get me skewered if I posted them... far too much information about what a sicko I really am. But perhaps some of my more tame works might be postable.
I will consider the matter if there is interest.

For me... and I expect for a lot of people... I need to be in the right mood and have time to read a story. Whereas artwork is a more immediate sort of thing. It only takes a moment to look at a piece of art.
I don't like the way the message queue in FA works because it puts music and stories in together with images... with the expectation that you're going to go through them immediately and in order just like the art. And it just doesn't work that way. I end up just bypassing them usually, since a story in the middle of a bunch of art you're looking through is like a boat anchor. Not because writing is less pleasing to me, but because it can't just be skimmed in a second or two. I want to save the story to check out later, but there's not really a way to do that.
What I really want is for them to be in seperate queues. So I can roll through the bunch of new artwork separately... and then when I'm in the right condition to pick up a story, I can look through the new stories queue... and when I'm in the mood for new music, I can look through my new music queue.
As it is now, the system is designed around artwork and works efficiently only for that.
Many of my favorite artists are also beautifully talented writers, and while it's disheartening that I don't get to know them as well as I would like, I do appreciate what is revealed through semantic imagery. The "queue" of written work I'm looking to explore often becomes my list of recent documents in Word, or the ones I make portably accessible on my http://docs.google.com/ . Unfortunately that requires a bit of time in saving or copying the stories, a process that isn't exactly streamlined by our web communities.
I think it's a valid concern, because like it or not, these are the primary resources for exposure and communication that much of the dragon/fur/etc. community relies on. I would love to see your idea of separate lists of recent stories and recent gallery uploads. I also look forward to whatever stories you do choose to share with us... and if you find the community too close-minded (hard to imagine, but I'll admit that elements of it are!) then I trust we'll find each other for long enough to share tales.

Dreams suppressed are a spirit caged,
Dreams lost leave naught to gauge
the essence drowned as torrents rage around us,
when memories are all we have.
Personally, I enjoy good stories more than artwork. But I've never really looked around FA for them, because like you say, you can't really skim them, which means there's no quick way of knowing whether you'll enjoy it or not.
If you have stories that aren't already posted here, what do you have to lose by posting them?
If you are concerned about your reputation, you could make a dub account and post them there? If people love them then you can say HEY IT WAS ME! Or if humans narrow minded views can handel it just delete the account but meh.
"Pictures worth a thousand words,"
"Yeah but a good story always uses more," says I.
As for any controversy or backlash for their contents, I don't think it would anything like what your are afraid of. I've seen other writers/artists worried about posting their 'darker' stuff, and always come out surprised how little negative feed back they received. Most furs around here seem to have learned to simply look the other way when given warning ahead of time about content they won't enjoy.
So please consider at least testing the waters so to speak with a sample of your stories. It would be a shame to let your nervousness keep your creations hidden away, especially if they are as good as your stories I have read.
I've only ever seen your Ral story so far. But every now and then, I feel the desire to go back and read it again.
Like rathalos, it was one of the first I'd read, and it was how I found out about how much I loved vore.
I must have reread that scene with the waitress at least 4 times before finally continuing with the rest of it. ^_^;
Anyway, my point is, I've always liked your works. your art, your music, and your writing. your a lot better then you give yourself credit for, and if you do decide to post your stories, chances are good that there will be at least some people reading them, even if the focus of this site is mostly visual artwork.
I know I'll be one of them! : )
I've said this before, but you inspired me to write. The story of Ral and the human mechanic is an awesome story. To my knowledge, the human was never named, refered to only as "human". The Carnivoria scene being epic, the different characters were very fun, the ending funny and clever.
You know, I have found a lot of liberty in expressing myself since coming online many years ago. What I would be bashfull to express at one time, I almost feel completely free and uninhibited in sharing now. For example, I'm co-writing a dragon story where a journalist is interviewing a dragon and human couple. They live together, and in the second half of the story the reader learns that the dragon and human couple are into scat and watersports. Would I ever write about scat and watersports and share it with my RL friends and family, the answer is a resounding no. But I don't mind writing about these things and posting them on an internet forum. This is what I love about FurAffinity, BigGulp and YiffStar, I can express myself even among some people who may know me in RL because its appropriate -here-.
There are people in RL who see me at the laptop typing stories, but they will probably never know what I'm writing, unless they're a furry or other sort reading it on the forums I post to, they're out of the loop and don't need to know.
I would encourage you to post your stories.
