My Complaint to Delta Airlines
This is literally written to Delta airlines complaint center by me.
So let me start with a Peramene Tale of mine and my boyfriends experience on your airline. We were at a convention, having the time of our lives. It had just wound down from an exciting weekend. We were ready to go home. We got to the airport, and there seemed to be nothing wrong with our flight. We got Pretzels and walked to seats that were sitting in the seats at the gate. . We were early, but that was ok, we decided to talk and use our electronic devices to pass the time. We planned on getting some food in our Midway point, which was in Detroit (DTW). We smiled and were having as much of a decent time that any traveler can go through with having to fly. That is when we got the notice that we MAY be leaving late for our flight from the attendant.
We grumbled and sat there, charging our phones, because we knew we would need the battery life to contact our ride. We waited 40 minutes past the time to board in order to get on the plane. We were mildly dissatisfied with the wait, but we would live. We were seated in Zone 3, which was fine. When we went to go through the gate, we volunteered to place our bag under the plane so that there would be more room for bags in the overhead compartments. They were scheduled for gate pick up, instead of just being placed on our next flight.
We went to our seats, we sat down. We were ready for the plane to take off. We had put our gum into our mouths and had started chewing. That was when the overhead speakers went off. They said that we would be taking off, but not until the other two flights that had been delayed to DTW were to leave before us. We both were hungry, and we were offered lukewarm water and Pretzels to satisfy our growling stomachs. we grumblingly ate our pretzels and 40 minutes later, we took off.
We thought we would be fine in the time limit for our next flight that would bring us from DTW to MCI, which was our final destination. It also had been delayed an hour. The original flight was to take off at 8:01 Eastern time, and it was delayed until 9:01 EST. When we landed, we knew we would have to run to our next gate, seeing we had checked our phones and saw the gate was A5 for our flight to Kansas City. This is where it got more than irritating. We landed, and then the overhead speaker came on once again. It told us that there were no available gates for us to disembark from. This was around 8:20 EST. We thought we might make it still, if we didn’t have to wait for too long. Ten minutes later, my boyfriend said “I bet a gate will open when our plane leaves without us.”
Twenty minutes later, we finally pull into the gate B5. This gate had actually already picked back when we were in Pittsburgh. Which means that instead of finding another gate, they just waited for the original gate to open up. While we waited for our gate pick up bag, we informed the lady at the desk that we were afraid that we were going to miss our next flight, because we had about 10 Minutes to get all the way across the terminal. He came back and said that they would hold the plane for us, while we watched our gate checked bags being thrown into the walkway. We grabbed ours, and like the Doctor running away from the bad guys, we took off.
We arrived there at 9:07 EST, only to find out that the plan had left without us. My boyfriend walked up the the gate, steaming mad. The Lady just told us, we now had to go to gate A43, the help desk, in in order to find out what we could do. He said some choice words to her and then we sat for 5 minutes, being completely out of breathe. We then walked up to the tram station and took the tram to Gate A43.
We went to the self service center of A43, and scanned our tickets. It said we would either have to wait in line to find out what we had to do, or call 800 707 5177. We called the number and waited 5 minutes while they told us there was nothing they could do for us, expect either put us on a waiting list for the chance of getting a new plane, or just take one that left at 3:57 EST. We chose to take the one at 3:57, and then they told us that they could offer us a DISCOUNTED RATE at a hotel. They didn’t even offer to put us up for the night, when it was their fault that we were now stuck in Detroit.
I had to call work and inform them that there was no way I could make it to work on time or even at all with the time that we were given. I could have been fired because of this. Luckily, I was able to find someone to work for me, which means that I did not lose my job. Even more lucky was the fact that my boyfriend didn’t have to work at all. He is a Manager, that had taken some vacation time. He isn’t allowed to miss work.
We stood in line, trying to figure out where our checked bag was. We would need it in order to get things we needed, like soap, and toothbrushes. We were told we had no access to our checked bag, and there was nothing we could do about it.
We were then shipped to the Quality Inn. While it was a somewhat clean hotel, it was nothing compared to where we stayed in Pittsburgh. We had to order food, instead of our plan of me making dinner that night.
The next day we were out by 12 pm EST. We were wearing dirty clothing, and generally unhappy with Delta. We took a shuttle to the airport, and got through security. We had to call a shuttle and tell them that we would need pick up in Kansas city, seeing we no longer had a ride. This cost us an extra $105. We got the new tickets, we were no longer sitting next to each other. This was a slight problem, seeing that I am afraid of flying with people I don’t know.
We took off on time, but there was some turbulence along the way. I know that this part of it is not Delta’s fault, but it adds to the discomfort that we had. When we landed, we got off the plane, and I found out that the two people that were next to my Boyfriend, had been bumped up to first class, and I was not offered the seat next to him, so that I could be more comfortable.
We went to the checked bag area pick up, and it turned out that we were lied to. Our bags made it on the original flight. This was irritating because of the fact that we needed what was in our checked bag.
That is our story, and it ends with us NEVER using your services again.
