Post AC Report: Day One, Thursday
So, apparently posting reports after going to a con is a thing. Truth be told, I kinda wanted to give daily updates during Anthrocon, but I was just so busy each day that I didn't. I am now, though. Not exactly sure what goes into these sort of things. I guess I'll just talk about what happened through each day. So for this journal, here's Day One.
Getting to the con was a bit more...complicated than I would have expected. Without going into details, in the day before I planned on going on my trip, it turned out I wouldn't be able to go. Spent the next day and a half coming up with an alternative. I missed my chance to road trip up to Pittsburgh. However, I was able to find a flight up there on Thursday morning. A quick shuffle of plans, an okay from my folks, and a couple early morning flights later meant I made it to Pittsburgh just in time for the con. Let me tell you, flying was fun. I mean, seriously! You should of seen me as the plane was taxiing and taking off. I had a huge grin and was full of excitement. I was in a plane! In the air! And before I knew it, I was in Atlanta. A few minutes later, I was on a plane again! Just 4 hours of travelling, and I went from Florida to Pennsylvania. It was amazing! This cheetah must have aviator blood in him or something. Actually, I do. My dad was a navel aviator. I guess I got a wonder of flight from him.
Anyways, that was just me traveling up there. It was quite a way to start my day, and as soon as I got to Pittsburgh, things just kept getting better. I met up with Kehei, Drekian, and Slasinth in the airport, and it was great meeting these guys in real life. We roomed together through the con, and that was great. We drove to the Westin, I put my stuff in the room, and it was time to begin my adventure at Anthrocon.
So, never before had I seen so many furries. I had seen furries before. I've started hanging out with a local group of furs in Florida. But a small handful of people in suits is nothing compared to Anthrocon. There were some amazing suits there. Some...not so good. I won't get into specifics. Most people though didn't have suits, which was fine by me. I don't have a suit. It would have been awkward if I were the only one without one.
Back to business though. After you see a few dozen suits in just as many minutes, it becomes less of a shock and more just a normal sight. We went to registering was easy. I pre-registered, so I didn't have to wait in the massive line for day-of registration. Afterwards, I filled out this insanely long research survey. It was interesting, but some aspects of it didn't apply to me. Almost got the feeling I was too normal to be a furry. But oh well.
My friends and I grabbed some lunch afterwards, so we ended up walking through downtown a bit looking for food. It was a good chance for us to get to know each other some more.
Thursday was a rather lax day for the con. It was mostly just registration. There was a meet and greet later that day and a dance, but that was it. Everything really began on Friday, which I will get to later.
We waited in the day-of registration line because one of my friends didn't register beforehand. Long line was long. So I did some people watching and checked out some fursuits. There was a fox with a ban hammer, which amused me. A green canine of some sort sporting some pimpin'-ass pants. One person was in a suit that looked like some sort inflatable thing. How the hell he (or she) breathed in that thing was beyond me. But there was this other person, whose name escapes me, who had this amazing looking suit. They said that it was made by BeastCub, or something like that. Well, I took photos, and it was one of my favorite suits I saw at the con.
After everyone got registered, it was getting towards evening time. There was a Vietnamese place a few blocks away from the hotel, so we went to go have some pho. I tried pho for the first time that day. And I think there's no such thing as a small portion of pho. Because the bowls where huge. None of there finished our bowls, but it sure did fill us. It was rather tasty actually.
The rest of the night, I'm trying to remember what happened. There was swimming in the pool, I know that. Normally, I'm too self conscious to go swimming, but I was all like "Fuck it, I'm at a furcon." And it was fun. Other than that, there was aimless wandering, exploring around the convention center. There were fireworks, because it was the 4th of July. It was especially cool because there was a lightning storm as well. Did some wandering outside that night, looking for something to do. Ended up playing pool in this one bar. Turned out to be a gay bar. But I don't judge. Except I judge that pool table. It would eat the cue ball, and one time we had to put money in it to get it back. So, pool table, this is me judging you. You should feel bad.
Went back to the room after that, and I planned out what panels would be interesting to go to. So I put together a schedule for myself. Also talked and chatted with my friends. It was fun and cool and a great way to end my first day at Anthrocon. Very eventful day. In the morning, I was in Florida. And at night, I had already experienced a day in Pittsburgh. Very cool.
So, there's my report of Day One of Anthrocon. I guess that was a lot of stuff to talk about. Friday was an even busier day. I'll talk about it a later day. Hopefully, this journal wasn't too rambling.
Anyways, take care everyone. Talk to y'all later.
