Post AC Report: Day Two, Friday
So what happened Friday? Maybe if I made this journal earlier, I would remember better. Sorry about that. Been lazy about it. Good thing I wrote down the schedule of what I wanted to do on my phone. That'll help me keep track of what happened.
Anyways, yes, Friday. First real day of the con. Not that Thursday wasn't any fun. I loved Thursday. However, Friday was when the panels started and the artist alley and dealers den opened. Friday was also when most of the panels I had an interest in attending were happening, so there were a lot of conflicts. My friends and I would split up occasionally, depending on the panels we wanted to attend.
In the morning, I decided against going to the Opening Ceremony so that I could go to a panel on drawing body language. I don't regret it, because I learned a lot of tips and had good fun. Got a few sketchbook pages filled with gesture drawings, so I think that'll be a nice little pose reference in the future.
There was a bit of time to kill, so my friends and I wandered for bit before heading to the next panel. But after that one, Kehei and I decided to wander around the Dealer's Den. On our way there, we totally ran into Fender. Or, I guess someone in a Fender fursuit. Totally took a picture of it. Kehei posted the picture of it: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11063608/
The Dealer's Den and Artist Alley were totally amazing. So was the Art Show. Especially the art show. Something about seeing the art from artists you admire on the Internet in person just makes it amazing. So was meeting the artists. Believe it or not, they're real people. I mean, I talked with them, and they talked back, and they were nice! A few artists stand out more for me than others, but that's always the case. You like the art you like, after all. Though, that does remind me that I need to get around to watching the art of people and artists I met at AC.
Did a couple passes through the Dealers Den before heading to the art show and artist alley. It was getting towards the time the Artist Alley was closing for the day, and I needed to find my badge. And I did! I managed to find where Zyraxus was to pick up my badge. It turned out awesome. If you want to know what it looks like, here's a collection of Zyraxus's badges: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10990280/ Mine's the one with the name "Skips", though you might have guessed that.
But aside from that, I did meet another artist in the Artist Alley. She goes by ESDA Fable, or like ESDA06 on deviantArt (Link: http://esda06.deviantart.com/). But I knew of her from completely outside the fandom as Erin Seigel, who was a guest artist on the web series Extra Credits, of which I am a big fan. It was awesome meeting her! Anyways, she was offering a variety of commissions, but I commissioned a Character Design from her. I think that sort of commission was intended for folks without a fursona, but I only ever picked a cheetah as a fursona because they're my favorite animal, and there's no deeper meaning behind it. I was curious to know what someone else would think of for a character based on myself.
At that point, the art stuff was closing down for the day, and I lost track of my friends, so I went back to the room, where I found them. They were gonna head off to pick up something from walmart. I was gonna head to an Art Jam, because I had already missed out on a lot of panels do to spending so much time in the Dealers Den. Though it's funny, because after they left and I went to the art jam, I was walking outside and I see this vehicle that is like blaring the Harlem Shake and I see a guy with white sunglasses and blue fox bandanna rocking out to it. It was my friends, obviously, and I had a good laugh from it.
Anyways, the art jam. It was focusing on realistic anthros. Now, if there were a sliding scale of style ranging from "Toony" to "Realistic", my favorite style is probably more realistic. Or, perhaps a stylized realism. Like, a realism with some toony aspects to it. There's artists like that, and I've seen some of that style in the dealers den, and I really admire it. Anyways, I'm still developing my own style. Unfortunately, for an art jam, I didn't really get any art done. But that's just the way I am. I have difficulty starting a piece. But I did meet some cool people there. A few of those people were folk who were wanting to go to the Toony Anthros art jam, but apparently that one had no one there. So they went to realistic anthros art jam, and did toon art there. It was all good fun, and we talked and chatted and sketched.
Afterwards, I went to go meet up with my friends. They went to go see 2 the Ranting Gryphon, and I managed to catch the second half of his rant. Good Lord, that guy's hilarious. I couldn't find my friends there, so I just rendezvoused with them back at the room. There was still plenty of evening left, so there was plenty of things to do.
We were gonna meet up with our other friend downstairs. So we went to go catch an elevator. I'm not sure if I talked about elevators yet at AC. Apparently furry conventions seem to have lots of elevator traffic. But, before we actually got in the elevator, and were waiting for like a quarter of an hour for a ride down, we met a few, how do you say, "colorful" characters. Well, drunken fursuiters. Totally the fun kind of drunk, though. I'm not gonna name names, though. The interesting part was all of us squeezing into an elevator that already had a few people and fursuiters. Like, I've never been squished between two fursuits before. The amazing thing was that for some reason, that elevator smelled like mint. So we were probably filled beyond capacity, with a few people too drunk that they only reason they were standing was because there was no room to fall down, and it didn't smell bad at all because someone brought mint. Go figure. So yeah, ElevatorCon 2013. That was totally what we were doing.
Anyways, back in the lobby, looking for our friend. The word was that he was in the hotel restaurant. So we go looking for him there. Now, this restaurant is a classy establishment. Like, under normal circumstances, no way I was I dressed up enough to eat there. But I guess that doesn't matter at a furry convention, because only there will you see a classy establishment filled with casually dressed people wearing tails and ears and stuff like that.
We find our friend who, I kid you not, was sitting down having a conversation with 2 the Ranting Gryphon. I may have been more impressed had I not just heard of the guy the previous day. But one of my friends there was like a huge fan, and so the look on his face when he realized he was standing next to, and shaking the hand of, 2 the Ranting Gryphon, was priceless. I got to shake his hand too, which was cool.
We were all in high spirits after that. So we ate classy food in the classy establishment because we were hungry and why the fuck not. Good steak. Really good steak. Though I totally feel bad for letting my friend take the bill.
Anyways, that night had a few other events. Quickly went by the dance to check it out. I wasn't feeling it that night, so I didn't stay long. May have done a few other things. Can't really remember. But I do know that an elevator ride and an amazing story of desk lamps, spirit animals, and Rihanna later, we were back in the room and ready to call it a night.
So that was my second day at Anthrocon, so that means we are halfway done. I'll post about the next day later. For now though, I hope y'all have a good night.
