Adventures in Acrilics

It's official. I do truly suck at painting in real life~
My mother came home about a month ago with some beginners set of brushes and small tubes of acrilic paints, and I've been meaning to break into them and start learning what it's like to be a real artist. Unfortunately, I've been too timid to pick up a brush and give it a try, knowing that I was going to have expectations of grandeur thanks to my digital experience and then get shot down by reality when I try putting paint on canvas. Today was the day! I had done nothing with my life, filled myself with donut holes and milk, and was ready to explore the unknown world hidden beneath my blank white canvas.
It stunk *derp*
I had hopes of returning each day, knowing I'd stink at the beginning and would improve each day over the rest of my summer, but I find myself wearily unmotivated to give it another go... I know I will anyway X3 I have wanted to know how to paint for just about my whole life, but the level of difference between my digital painting and my traditional understanding is astounding!
I think I managed to get about 2/3 of the way through blending blue to yellow, but I think I missed green, and the paint dried out before I got the last of the yellow on, so there's a chunk of brick color at the end.
I HAVE GOALS THOUGH!!
By the end of this week, I want to make a tree... a very, basic, non exciting uncolorful straight-out-of-the-tube color green tree.

If the paint dries too quickly, try getting some medium to increase working time. Acrylic is pretty speedy and it takes getting used to if you're accustomed to taking your time. (And acrylic painters often say the opposite about oil, as that's much slower and takes getting used to if you're accustomed to painting like the wind. No one's ever happy! ;-p )
I'm sure you'll do great, given time. :)
I hope that you continue your dream to hone your skill in traditional painting. It must be learned; no one's born doing it. You continue to practice it as much as you see necessary. Hearing of your pleasure with success in it is something I hope very much for. If you think your first time "stunk", then just know that my entire life in visual art has been a failure and for naught. Good thing that art isn't what I'm working on a degree in!
So, to end this long "comment", I sincerely wish you luck in developing that skill and I hope that you stick to it so long as you wish to make that dream a reality. From that first tree you paint, the figurative fruits of opportunity will grow albeit small in the beginning.
Hope your birthday celebration goes/went well. Take care, Tru.
