Here's a rough overview of what is in store. When in doubt, feel free to ask me about things not included on this list! However:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Here's the dry part you must have read and understood before commissioning me. It should answer any basic questions; for more specific things, check the "QUESTIONS & ANSWERS"-section below!
Payment & Delivery
For any commission, a partial payment is required in advance. The amount is 25% of the final commission price, but set at a minimum of 25€ / 30 USD.
Please see the Q&A below for details on payment, negotiations and time it will take to get your commission done!
The rest of the full payment is due before delivery - you get a sample file, you pay the rest, you get a web-formatted file plus the full resolution file in the format you prefer (if not specified, you get a 100% quality JPEG and PNG).
Payment can be send via Paypal. I will contact you and provide you with a commission-ID/keyword to keep easier tabs on transactions, so please use them.
Refunds and Delays
If for any reason I find myself unable to finish your commission (e.g. delivery will be delayed for an unspecified, unpredictable time span, or if I find myself otherwise unable to honor our agreement), I will refund your advance payment.
If you are unsatisfied with the result and chose not to accept it on delivery after your approval of the sketch (see below) has been given, it will be treated as a cancelled commission and I will keep the advance.
Customer Approval and Workflow
Once I take a commission and the partial payment has been made, I will do a sketch or rough draft based on your wishes and show it to you for approval.
Please note that if you ask me to go through more than 3 major changes/redrafts at this stage, I will charge an additional 10% of the base commission price. If that's not okay with you, you are free to cancel the commission at that point.
Once the sketch has been approved, I reserve the right to refuse significant changes to the image in process (that includes changes in pose, composition, anatomy, and character design beyond very minor accessories).
Depending on the size of the commission, I will periodically show you work-in-progress pictures.
Terms of Use and License
All work you buy from me as a commission under these guidelines you purchase as a private customer for private use only. If you are interested in commercial use of my artwork, I also offer contract work.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS!
I want a commission! How do I best approach you?
You can send me a note or a comment on one of the art sites I am on, but the most direct way to contact me is shooting an e-mail to remainaery[at]gmail(dot)com. If you send a private note/message or leave a comment, it's possible that your inquery gets lost. Mail is the safest way to communicate.
Please tell me in about one, two sentences what kind of commission you would like - please don't give me a full page of description before I even contact you back.
Once I get back to you and accept your commission, send me the appropriate partial payment (see above) and provide any further necessary detail.
Can I pay in a way other than Paypal?
If you are an international customer (outside of the EU), I only accept Paypal.
If you are from the EU, I also accept transfers to a bank account, if you prefer.
In both cases, please use the customer-ID and/or commission keyword I provide you with when sending me money for easier transactions.
When will you start working on my commission?
Once the advance payment is received, I will start working on your commission - that starts by giving you an estimate when it will be done and then working on the sketches to show you for approval. Please be aware that once your approval is pending, I will not continue to work on your commission until approval is given, so delivery time will adjust accordingly.
How long will it take until I receive my commission?
Under normal circumstances, I finish an image within 14 work days, but depending on the type and size of the commission, this will of course vary. Expect up to 30 days for more work-intensive pieces.
I don't accept commissions when I am very busy with contract work or other urgent deadlines, so wait times should never be too long, unless you are asking for a 20+ hours fullblown painting.
I changed my mind and want to cancel the commission.
That's fine. Should you decide to back out from a commission (for whatever reason) once I start working on it, or if you are not satisfied with the up to 3 "free" initial approval-sketches and refuse to accept the 10% price raise for subsequent sketches and reworkings, please let me know ASAP.
I will keep the advance and call it quits, no hard feelings. If you cancelled your commission and noticed me in time but were still satisfied with my work thus far, I will gladly accept future commissions from you regardless!
I noticed you forgot a little detail after I approved the sketch! Can you straighten that out?
I will not bite your head off if you tell me I forgot the earring or armband your character is wearing and will gladly and humbly correct that if you point that out immediately after receiving the final image, but please be aware (especially if you yourself are not an artist and might not know from personal experience) that a lot of the "minor changes" customers sometimes ask for are not as minor as you might believe once a picture is done to a certain degree, and often pose significant extra workload that cannot be applied free of charge.
That said, if you are willing to compensate accordingly for that extra workload, I am sure we can come to an agreement.
Oops, I suddendly went broke and can't pay you right now!
That's okay. I can keep your commission on hold until you find yourself able to make the rest of the payment.
Can I get an invoice/receipt for my commission?
Sure! If you need one for your paperwork, just tell me and I can provide you with one.
Can I make alteration requests or give real time feedback in a lifestream commission?
In the event of lifestream commissions, you can indeed give real time feedback / ask for small changes while I am working. However, the same rules apply considering the reasonable amount of changes during the work process.
Can I alter the image you gave me (or have someone alter if or me)?
You are free to use the final image file or parts of it for private purposes and display it on your personal site(s). You have permission to crop and resize this file or slightely modify it as you see fit as long as the original work is not significantly altered. That means: You are allowed to cut out parts of it for avatars or banners and maybe even shift the colors and tones for such purposes. For any other alterations or usages, please ask for my permission first.
Help! I lost the highres-file because my dog ate my harddrive! Can I get a new one?
I do keep backups and the highres files of a lot of my works archived, but not all of them and not always undefinetely. If by some unfortunate coincedence you lose the file I provided you with, contact me and I will try to dig out another copy of it, but there's always a chance it gets lost on my end, especially if it has been a while. So no guarantees.

If you go for the colored lineart scene at the 100€/130$ tier, 2 characters are included (check the Example in that offer - I might need to reword that above if it's not clear; in any other case, additional characters are +50% base price (where applicable - so that excludes head-only portraits)
