I see nothing awkward in the commercial, but there *is* a sense of cluelessness from Denny's about healthy eating with the gonzo dishes they displayed in the ad. My definition of an "awkward" ad was the infamous Snickers "manly" ad that ran during the Superbowl a few years back. This thing here:

THAT is forced patriotism. When dissent = treason. This Denny's commercial is patriotic the same way the George Washington commercial from Dodge is patriotic. And, for the record, the Denny's commercial casts both their target demographic and their mentality, correctly.

Maybe to me it seems more like a parody of patriotism than the real thing. Like.... Team america kind of stuff :)
