I see nothing awkward in the commercial, but there *is* a sense of cluelessness from Denny's about healthy eating with the gonzo dishes they displayed in the ad. My definition of an "awkward" ad was the infamous Snickers "manly" ad that ran during the Superbowl a few years back. This thing here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oooij6sQYgI
It reminds me of when Chevrolet put an open call out--on the internet, no less-- to submit text for their latest commercial touting their brand-new outsized, gas-guzzling SUV...during the height of high gas prices under GWB.
No, this isn't forced patriotism.
Watch any Fox News content from 9/11/2001 up to, oh, 2005: "People are criticizing GWB or the GOP. Why do they hate America?"
Remember GWB's post-9/11 speech: "If you're not with us, you're against us!"
THAT is forced patriotism. When dissent = treason. This Denny's commercial is patriotic the same way the George Washington commercial from Dodge is patriotic. And, for the record, the Denny's commercial casts both their target demographic and their mentality, correctly.
Nah, ya just don't get it. The old dude is telling the fat dude what the secret ingredient is "Murrica" in the sense of people... essentially soilent green. ^^
it's the one restaurant they use on numerous occasion in the series.
Because diner food wasn't American enough already?
I think I'll pass.... Besides... There is a car exhaust Id rather be sucking on... And Im sure it tastes just as good.

One of my favorite indy neo-folk songs/artists.
Pour more oil on those eggs, Denny's!
