wtf // Raising Funds?
So my husband just sprawled out on the couch and said "draw me like one of your french poodles".
I just... what.
ANYWAY
I'm in serious need of a new computer. Each passing month makes that more and more apparent. With my regular commission money going toward monthly bills, it's difficult for me to save up enough. So I'm looking at other ways to raise the funds.
Ideally I would do a donation raffle, but that seems to be against Paypal's TOS -- and lord knows I don't need them digging around in my business.
I've been thinking about doing a GoFundMe project; has anyone had any experiences with the site? Would anybody be interested in donating toward something like that?
Does anyone have any other ideas for saving up? I'd love to hear!

And thanks very much!
You could always try doing an auction or Doodles for Donations streams! I had a lot of success with both of those. ♥
I would love to do donation streams, but that's exactly why I need a new PC. xD This old thing can't handle any sort of streaming software.
The auction, however, is definitely something I'll be thinking about!
Thanks so much!
Less cynically, you could set up a wishlist of components on somewhere like Amazon and ask people to buy them for you as payment for art. Or for entry tickets to your raffle idea, I suppose.
But yes, the Amazon thing is a great idea. Amazon is my second home, haha! I think I might be buying a computer from someone who commented earlier, though -- but if that falls through a wishlist would probably be my next choice!
You might also consider something along the lines of sketch streams and other 'on the spot' commissions. I have a lot of success with those and if you are quick enough with it, you can easily make a chunk each night and do this perhaps once a week or so until you're set. It also helps keep from taking too much time away from your commissioners because it's secluded to one session/night.
Lastly, and this has been used by some, but not many artists here: Sponsorship. Have perks, discounts/credits on art, be able to get higher quality images than what is posted on FA, or some people offer a monthly drawing for the sponsors to receive art, prints, etc. You can do this by months (like pay for a 3, 6, or 1yr plan) with different prices and perks. You'd just have to decide what more you can offer them for sponsoring/supporting you.
I would love to do sketch streams, but that's exactly one of the reasons why I need a new computer -- I can't do any sort of streaming. I could probably do a few sketches or quick spots, though -- that is a great idea. I did a run of icon/sketches quick-sales when I needed fishtank funds, and it worked out quite well.
The sponsorship is a really intriguing idea. I'll have to think through that a bit. I think it's an excellent idea, and I would love to see if I could make it work.
Thanks so much for your ideas! Lots to think on. :D
I've never heard of GoFundMe, but I'd totally donate any way I could! =)
Thank you so much. :3
I think prep-posed art actions or adopts from you would be an awesome idea as Rooc stated.
Adopts would be fun! I've never done that before. But an auction is definitely on my list, I'll be looking into that. c:
Perfect for ladder Auction type things.
Kickstarter is not an appropriate option either, they're geared more towards large productions than anything else, really (the cost of the computer would have to be a component of something like "investment in starting up a business" or something...)
I have had success with YCH things, though. Often, if you include some kind of specific setting or scenery along with the figures, your bids can go higher.
I actually went with GoFundMe, as they have an option for personal goals similar to mine (as opposed to Kickstarter's rather stingy rules on what you can raise money for), so hopefully that will help a bit.
I'm definitely going to look into YCH auctions and possibly some adoptables.
Thanks for your ideas! <3
Also I gotta commission you more, help out a little :3
And I have now made it my goal to draw my husband as a french poodle! >:3
