an anime that is supposedly good.

"Attack on Titan" is a relatively new Anime series that's currently very hot property. Generally, humans have been holed up in a gigantic multi-walled city that offers protection from the race of Titans who have appeared on Earth many years previous. Titans are now considered the top of the food chain, and it seems they only prey on Humans. All had been fine within the giant walled city, until one day, a massive titan appeared and broke through the outer wall of the city, allowing the "smaller" titans to enter and proceed to eat the humans.

Humans have also armed themselves to fight against the titans...

It's very dramatic. Lotsa shots of the titans devouring the humans. Lotsa action of the humans defending themselves (or getting eaten).

If you've ever heard of the concept of the "Uncanny Valley," the Titans really hit the Uncanny Valley... HARD.

It's an anime that has giant humans in it, though the giant humans are either ugly as balls or look as if they've had their skin completely removed (literally, not that they're ugly, their skin is literally gone).

I read some of it a few years back, lost interest in it. But it's attained a huge HUGE fan following, so... yeah.
