Alright, heres the beef. Now im trying to avoid buying a new hard drive and wanting to get my old one working, i have lots of movies and much space i can use for gmod movies.
I have not used my hard drive in a long time, 3 years really since college. So for the past 3 months i have been trying to get it to work, my old power supply cord broke so i couldnt use it anymore, i bought a new one, plugged it in and the light started blinking, but was not running. So i figure i would buy a new one so i did just recently. When i plugged it in, it got real hot and started to smoke a bit, so i think that one wont work. I even tried to plug the old one i bought and it blinked only one or twice, so we know that both power supplies are different. But i dont know what to do...im stumped.
Remember i dont want to buy another one as long as i can still use my old one, try and figure out a way.
Does Anyone have any ideas how to help? How to get this thing to fix? For your info it is a WD6400M1U-00 drive, 800-1000 GB. So can anyone help please? Ill really appreciate it. Please help if you can! :)

If you have a desktop computer, you could always mount it internally if you take the casing off. It's the same SATA connectors, since it's really just a desktop or laptop hard drive in disguise. Let me know f that helps

Hmm, ok well since that's the case, you can always buy another enclosure for the hard drive. It should come with a new SATA to USB adapter. Since you mentioned it being plugged into the wall, I'm assuming it's one of the big desktop hard drives, so you'll want to look for one designed for a 3.5" drive. It should come with its own AC adapter. Alternatively, you may be able to find a hot-swap dock, which should also work
