A question to any digital artists/colourists
12 years ago
I guess that is what you would call that not sure so I am sticking to that lol. Ok! I have to ask, I am still playing with photoshop and sai and I am noticing I draw and ink traditionally nicely and am trying to scan my inks and practice colouring them there. That way if I screw up miserably I will still have a nice ink and can try again. So.. I am also noticing as I try to colour them I am getting little pixels of grey near my ink lines that I have to then go back to colour them to get a nice straight line. (If that doesn't make sense I can go into detail) I was curious how do y'all go about to combat this? Do you just say suck it up and fill in every tiny little square? Or do you re-ink the image digitally then go off to use the lasso etc.? Do you use some sort of crazy shortcut sorcery that requires the head of a chicken and the blood of a first born child? Any input would be appreciated! (if anyone needs to know I have pse9 and sai ver 1 which is expired but I get around that fact with my snipping tool of sneakiness.)

I, personally, use SAI for all my coloring. I know exactly what you're talking about, unfortunately. The grey area around the lines comes from your scannning the image. It's just how the computer reads that fine area around your lines. I've not seen any way to get rid of those grey areas except draw the lines digitally; in which case they are non-existent. As for fixing them...I don't have an answer, but hopefully someone else does. As for me, well, I just go back and color them in myself. *shrugs*

OP
I have an expired version of SAI that I have been using lol but I also have sketchbook and photoshop so I am trying to familiarize myself with all of them lol. Yea it is a pain >.< I know there is some way you can get rid of them but I am not sure and when I try to research them I either have no clue what they are talking about because apparently my computer is too stupid to render the shortcuts or I don't find it lol. I can't stand the tiny itty bitty lines that digital art gives me sometimes and I haven't gotten the handle of making those thick to thin tapered awesome lines that others have mastered lol. Yea that is what I am doing now >.> taking forever but it is all totally worth it :) (it also doesn't help that my pen has run away and I am using my little fingerpad on my laptop :/)

I managed to find a cracked full version of SAI in a torrent a while back and have been using it with no problems thus far. As far pen problems, I have always preferred using my mouse, but I seem to be in the minority there. ^^;
