Okay, so I was contacted by Tony Schermetzler, a part of the MTV show "True Life" and have been meaning to ask this of my fellow furs; What is so bad about fighting negative media with good media? I have been talking to these people and I even studied dossiers on them, their careers, and shows! I DID my research and still furs out there pour on the hate with shit like "You will fuck it all up" or "We will block you and shun you"
WHY CANT WE GROW THE FUCK UP AND TAKE THE FANDOM BACK! PUT ART AT THE FOREFRONT! IF YOU SUPPORT ME ADD ME ON SKYPE: SwitchHitter95
Okay, so we as a fandom have taken shit from the media so many times and now, I believe, is our time to fight fire with fire and put the art and culture of the fandom in the foreground again. I want as much support as I can muster so anyone reading this please share it if you agree with me. If you don't agree, then to each his own. I have dedicated myself if this works; to improving the Public Relations of the fandom so that we dont get pushed to the dark corners of the internet and STAY there. We BELONG side by side with other fandoms and not exluded because of some sexualized media bullshit.

If they were willing to show a non-exploitative informational show about the fandom, not just the small pieces of it that have to do with sexual stuff or people just being obnoxious, I'd 100% support it. I'd like to see info like all the donations/money that is raised from cons & that money goes to charity stuff. That's pretty cool. I'd also like to see it not be shown as some "addiction" cuz...damn.
I think most people are in it because the like the art or they just plain want to have fun. That's the core of it.
I do know that tv always has to have a story, otherwise they dont get viewers so being careful about it is best.
I think it would be really nice to not have to always be asked about the sexual stuff or just assumed to be some sexual deviant because I'm in the fandom. I'm sure others would agree.
The reason why so many dont want media coverage is because they're in the "super duper special club" meaning they're into something that's "taboo" and dont want to share it with others so having the current sorta bad rep means that less people will be inclined to get into it & more people will find it "mysterious" or whatever. People need to feel special & want something that is their own that they dont have to share with others, or only share with the elite few.
If this whole thing goes through & a show does air on tv, there will be lots of people in the fandom that will automatically reject those that participated, and there will also be a lot of people that embrace it.
I know I draw porn, but that doesnt mean I'm going to go "yiff", "skritch", or whatever else they're calling it in my suit or get a murrsuit or whatever. That's just....damn keep it in the bedroom. People dont need to know about that stuff. I think that's one of the big ones: just because you draw porn, doesnt mean you're a sexual deviant.
There are way more people that arnt involved in that in the fandom than people who are. Media (like with everything else) likes to sensationalize whatever part of something they can. Seeing that the fandom is full of nice people who just love art and having fun & being in a (fairly) non-discriminatory environment is boring to them. I think this is also why some might be opposed to media coverage. Though I dont see anything wrong with talking to the media and being open and honest....worst they'll do is not air the footage and then you can at least say you tried to paint a better picture of the fandom and in the end that's all you really can do.
If you want to help go ahead and add my skype (if you have one) or just watch this journal as I develop it. I need only positive encouragement and the support of fellow furs to make it through this. I was told that I might be chosen based upon my story and the fact that (most) of my family and friends support me being in the fandom. I am fighting my school on dress code, wanting to be able to wear my tail when I so please, people to be able to wear the clothes they want (without looking slutty, have some class ladies ), and for people to freely express themselves and not be afraid of prejudice or taboo. I will take the risk for thousands, if not millions in the case that this goes through, and I know that if I go into this with confidence, tactfulness, and clarity, we will have scored a point for the fandom in the media game.
