Well... shit. I knew religious/traditionalists could be pretty low, but this is horrible.
As some of you might know, I've been lurking the "No on 8" newsletters for some time, and this most recent one appalls me to no end.
Several major contributors, including companies within and around California, have received threatening letters from the office of the "Yes on 8" opposition. These are no ordinary "Donate to us, or you'll only help to destroy the nation" kinds of propaganda garbage that you see every election. No, these are far worse.
Below is reproduced a portion of the letters received by major contributors, as seen within the newsletter:
ProtectMarriage.com, in a recent letter wrote:Were you to elect not to donate comparably, it would be a clear indication that you are in opposition to traditional marriage. You would leave us no other reasonable assumption. The names of any companies...that choose not to donate...to ProtectMarriage.com...will be published.
...We will contact you shortly to discuss your contribution.
Additionally, the letter is undersigned by the following members of their executive committee:
* Ron Prentice, campaign chairman
* Edward Dolejsi, executive director of the California Catholic Conference (the Official Voice of the Catholic Community in California)
* Mark Jansson, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
* Andrew Pugno, lawyer for ProtectMarriage.com.
And to think, that corporate America will do nothing in such an event....
