Jeezus. High school is fun with straight honors, two sports, and like four clubs. Unfortunately, doesn't leave much time for writing. I figured since it was a long weekend with nothing to do, I'd try for another page. Sorry for the delay, and I feel stupid for saying I'd upload then not being able to (sorry to my two watchers... aka the only people who'll ever read this ). Anywho, here's the long delayed page!
Ashe sits in an ER waiting room, having driven her boyfriend's bike haphazardly through the town to the hospital located near the small place's one highway. She fell asleep as she waited on the doctor who'd rushed an unconscious Mikhal in to surgery to repair his shattered collarbone and shoulder. Sometime around two A.M., Dr. Blackstone walks out of the O.R. with a tired but relieved expression on his face. Gently he shakes the girl on the waiting room couch, waking her from a troubled and nightmare riddled sleep. "Doc, that you? Oh my god, how is he? Will he be okay?" Ashe asks in a rush, her usual witty sarcasm and snarkiness replaced by concern for her boyfriend. The aging doctor smiles wearily, he having heard this a million times. "Relax, he's going to be fine. There was heavy bleeding, and most of his throat and shoulder was hamburger, but we managed to staunch the bloodflow and get him stable. He's asleep now, and it's unlikely he'll be awake by tomorrow.", he says, as he glances at his watch. "Well, later today, anyway. His collarbone and shoulder were almost completely gone, but we did what we could. He will have to get a pin in his shoulder to put the shards of bone back together, but he'll most likely have full movement again. His neck was injured worse than his arm, but it is not life threatening now that we've gotten him here. You got here just in time. Had he lost much more blood, there wouldn't have been much of anything we could have done." At this, Ashe heaves a visible sigh of relief, having feared the worst seeing the wound inflicted. "Thank you doctor! When may I see him?" The man looks at her with understanding in his eyes. "He needs his rest. You may see him when he's awake, but I suggest you go home. It is far too late for a yound lady such as yourself to be out and about. He's a trooper, that one. God knows he's had a lot happen, but he's a strong young man. I remember a time he broke his arm in two different places, back when he was young. Fell from his tree house. When he got here he wouldn't cry, even after I set the bone. He'll pull through." The doctor puts a hand on her shoulder, helping the tired girl up. "How about I call a cab to take you home, sweetheart. I'll inform Mikhal's mother, too. For now, go home and get some sleep." Blackstone pulls out a dark reddish black cell phone and dials a number from his speed dial, speaking quickly then slamming the phone shut. "Your cab is on its way, miss. I'll have someone escort you out. We will call you if anything changes." With this, he calls over one of the orderlies on the night shift and tells him to help the poor girl to the ground floor where her cab was waiting. "Goodnight, Dr. Blackstone. Thank you...for saving Mikhal... I couldn't survive without him. I was so scared..." She hugs him unexpectedly, then follows the orderly out the door to the elevator beyond. "My my my... that certainly is one lucky boy in there." he says to himself thoughtfully. The man walks to his apartment, deciding to catch a nap while everyone else is out. He climbs into his cot and falls asleep, not knowing he had just performed surgery on possibly the most dangerous individual in the whole town...
