TMI - Ugly fursuits
I pondered for some time in my head regarding this topic, discussed with some people and I want to share my thoughts and hear yours.
Fursuit, one of the nicest things in the fandom for lots of people, not all but a lot, or not even a lot?
Walking through big conventions like EF or CF one can't ignore the presence of huge amount of fursuits that are not really nice to see, or to interact with to put it lightly. That view is highly personal but for most it works like that. Having said that some of you might already think, oh no, another arrogant stuck up guy that doesn't respect others, their work, effort and everything - well that's wrong! Not just fact wise but also it's not how it goes. World and people, how does it work? As it has since dawn of time, people like beauty, they like to see beauty in self, in others, in things around them and on the opposite we are repulsed with ugly stuff. We like fresh flowers, new shiny car, nature landscapes, flow of music, etc...and then you have rotten flesh, rusty junk, polluted nature, annoying creepy sounds, etc and the question is which one do you prefer? Be honest! Yes the first choice sounds much better. Well same goes with fursuits, like it or not, fair or not, it's how it works. Life is not fair, not even close, and we are all living in different circumstances and each and everyone has to make it work. So no job, or lack of money or any other reason and you decide to make your fursuit, you struggle, you spend days, weeks and months making something that you like and want and then in the end you make a derpy ugly suit and what happens? You expect others to like it, to be on your level of attachment to it, to act differently and force themselves to things they don't want, like and feel uncomfortable just because you think it should be that way and you want others to adapt to you. Now isn't that selfish? And not ok to others? I think so very much.
I'll be honest, wearing fursuit head and then sneakers looks awful, same as derpy fursuits in general. Such fursuiters expect other to interact with them, be happy, friendly, touch and I dunno what but it's creepy and awful! So so many people say it and yet there is drama about elite furs and bla bla. No, it's the selfish behavior of trying to force to others into liking your stuff, you and what not. You can't force others to like you or your fursuit, it doesn't go that way! Yeah it sucks if no money, job and countless hours but that does not give you any right to except and force others to change. Fandom has nothing to do with it. Kindness and stuff? Yeah there is more in the fandom one would say but everything has it's limits, fandom is not the ultimate accepting "place". It consists of people, and people are still people. If you find ones that accept you awesome, if not keep searching. But again, "coming" to the "fandom" and suddenly expecting everyone to adapt to you? No, just no. Do you see the stupidity in that? Fandom is very diversified with lot's and lot's of interests but so you need to find the people who are okay with you and you with them. It's a searching process, and not "I'm here" accept me everyone. If you have an ugly fursuit well bad luck, save some money, work, wait or just accept it and don't act like a surprised child when you get rejected from events, meets or people. Of course it could be other things but I'm talking fursuits right now. And I'm going to be perfectly honest, I'm also creeped out by ugly derpy dfursuits, partials with sneakers and similar. I do not want to interact with those or be around those in private or pulic. It has nothing to do with the person inside, person is completely unrelated, it can be the best friend in the world but if fursuit sucks it sucks. And it's how it works, you can't go to a ferrari car meeting with a rusty opel nor you cant go to a nice restaurant with swimming shorts no matter how much you love your opel or think your swimming pants are lucky.
To conclude the journal, instead of complaining how people are rude to you, not respecting you, being elitist, not appreciating the work, look at things more objectively, think about them and figure out why and how. Why not be nice and friendly to people, save some money or try making the fursuit again, try to improve on your fursuit building skills, find a group of friends that are oky with it, etc... or just accept the situation and work on it for the future. In such manner one should position himself and not bitch about how not everyone likes it. If they don't they don't, it's their personal opinion.
This journal was not meant to offend or disregard anyone but just expressing thoughts and experiences I collected talking to many people. Thx for reading and if you want tell me in short please what you think about it.

People complain... it's in their nature though. But as you said... don't expect everyone to accept you or be friends with you.
There is sometimes too much lack in common sense and then you're the boogyman for them =/
If you can't make something good yourself, pay someone else who can do it for you.
Money is the problem you say? Well, I'm pretty sure you could manage to save up over long time for a nice quality suit. It took me about 2 years of putting money aside for this suit,(since i didn't have a job back then) and it was bloody worth it!!
and here comes the good part.... we can all decide for ourselves who we like and who our friends are! I do that to... everybody does!
And i agree... if i am on a furmeet where there are only very nice pro suits and are a lot of children i would not like it to have a self made creation derp suit around me... that would ruin the magic blahblah... but on a furcon for instance, you just have to live with it and ignore/walk around them.
i have some friends who dont have the best suits, and they know that.... if they participate on a meet, they are the spotters, and a lot of derpsuiters should take a example out of that!
Thanks Kimu!
but i think most people agree with your statement, and as do i. id rather wait till I'm 25 until i get a suit than get a cheaply made one.
Only other thing is, I think a lot of people will wear sneakers with partials because lots of fursuit feet aren't really made that well for extended periods of walking. A friend of mine got blisters real bad from walking around in fursuit feet that didn't have enough support. Me, I really need to have arch support because my feet are kind of messed up, so if I do get fursuit feet made it will be around good shoes. Just my 2 cents.
On the one hand it does sound harsh, but yes, as far as I'm concerned, I really strongly prefer events where there are only good looking fursuits, for all the reasons you posted, which are very true. It's just more "magic" this way, and not only for the fursuiters, but for the public as well (that's why i waited to afford a good looking fursuit rather than building my own).
On the the other hand, I tend to befriend people without suit, get to see they're awesome guys, and later on discover they have a derpsuit: because of the relationship i already have with them, I have more than the suit to judge whether i want to interact with them or not, so things become different: I'm having fun with my friend, not just a derpsuit x). Moreover, if a derpsuit really manages to compensate its appearance with something else, like great acting, i would go to it as well :3 . And finally...if a derpsuit comes to me, i won't be cruel enough to reject it, and will play with it all the same ^^
Bottom line is: if i have nothing but the fursuit to judge a person with, I won't be very attracted by a derpsuit, and won't really try to interact with it on my own. However, other elements can change that radically.
Second: yes indeed... you step towards a nice fursuit much faster the you would to a ugly one...
Most furs don't know the difference between respecting and accepting. It's a bit like "I love you" and "I like you".
I highly respect furs that make their own suit which I will not keep to myself. But accepting it is a completely different story.
It's a bit like making a school exam. You don't get a grade because you made an exam, you get a grade because of how well you made it.
Maybe I'm alone in my sentiments, but the person inside matters just as much to me.
Thankyou!
I think, or so ive noticed at least this side of the world, alot of people instantly join the fandom and think they have to get a suit to fit in. You see so many posts of *hi i'm new! I cant wait to get a suit and go to a meet* and it doesnt matter at what cost. They see the reaction suiters get, and want to have some of that attention. Perhaps and this isnt putting a blanket over everyone, but *some* people dont tend to get out much, I see this in alot of posts of *how do i buy a train ticket?* *my sheds falling over what do I do?* *Ive never got a bus before/left my town before* people of an age who probably should have. On the internet they can be anonymous, theyre a name without a face who can do and say what they want. Putting a fursuit on is similar, no-one knows the real person inside, yet they get hugs, and attention etc. So in part... I see suiting to some people as an extension to their online self.
We also dont seem keen to critisise, and no matter how terrible someones creation is, ive seen so many comments to it going *cute! awesome! I love it!* and therefore put people in protective bubbles, and when we try to then be *Helpfully* critical, ie when someones asked for help, thy get upset, delete their accounts rant rave and be rude. Which makes people less inclined to try and help people, therefore without help or a kind nudge in the right direction, ugly suits are becoming the norm.
Im not saying that in order to fit in you need a suit by a popular maker, but everone can improve, and everyone has to start somewhere, just because youve made something thats not quite to par you dont have to wear it, sometimes you have to notch things up to experience, listen to advice and move on, only then will you improve and get to the point of accepting commissions and get yourself out there.
You dont need a suit to fit in, I, like the person above, prefer getting to know the person. Just because youve got a suit doesnt mean you are the greatest thing in the world, it also doesnt mean you can be a jackass. I was in a bar when a suiter came along and got their tail and smacked people they didnt know around the head with it, we're talking large raccoon type tail, so quite heavy, they ended up knocking a table of glasses onto the floor, noticed it, instead of reporting it they ran off. When I complained, I got quickly shot down by the masses, and told... im at a bar with furs and have to expect suiters to interact... its *his thing* to hit people with his tail. Sorry but i had a drink in my hand, and if you did that in a real bar youd quickly get a thump on the nose!
I had a case a few weeks ago, where I went out suiting for some pictures with a spotter and happened to unwittingly walk past a large childrens party. The parents came out and asked if I could go in and say hello to the children, so I did, and we danced and I bounced around and through a game of sharads they almost guessed my name! :) then I turned round and another suiter had followed me in with something awfull! with conbadges all round its neck, paws with no arms so it was bare arms with paws on the end, and they wouldnt interact with the children at all. The children tried to talk to it and it said no and walked off:( it kinda ruined it, and because it followed me in, made it look like we were together which to me marred what I was doing:/
Try and remember that children dont understand all they see is a fluffy animal, I've seen people post * its my costume ill do what I want, if I dont want to interact I wont* and ive seen suiters say no to children who have approached them, Just think how you come across:/
Sorry if i hijacked your journal, feel free to delete this massive reply! you just touched on a nerve!
