Business Ideas, Switching accounts? Need opinions.
Hey everyone! I hope you're all super ready for Halloween because I know I am! But as Halloween approaches I'm starting to think more about the Christmas season and about my professional career. I am in the process of making my art into much more of a serious thing financially, because let's face it I'm getting ready to graduate soon and I would really like to use my degree in the future. And so I am considering a lot of things business wise. I plan on going about getting tax information for the new year so that I can start paying taxes on what I do, therefore allowing me to sell more things. I am also going to be opening up an Etsy shop this weekend with the stickers I had for sale during anthrocon starting out, and I will be uploading some new sticker designs along with some holiday themed things very soon. I will also be opening commissions for the holiday season very soon, so if you would like something from me before Christmas keep an eye out over the next couple of weeks!
I am also considering switching user accounts. Sporkyd00m is a username I came up with when I was 14 and I have been wanting to change it to something different for a while now. I would like to use a combination of my real name and the username PixelSunshine when dealing with selling my artwork online. I am just debating on whether or not it is worth it to switch usernames and start fresh. Has anyone else done this? Did you feel like it was worthwhile or did you lose something when switching online identities?
If anyone has any advice for me regarding running a business for your artwork I would love to hear it. I'd really love to be able to make artwork for a living one day, and every little step toward that counts! All of your opinions and support mean the world to me so I would love to know what you guys think!

Okay! That's good to hear. I've had this account for a while now and it would be nice to start fresh. Re-boot my gallery too, because I have a ton of crap in this one after 3 years.

It's all up to you. I know I have not been able to commission artists again due to them changing their name and losing contact with them. It makes things confusing personally. However, it's all up to you.

Hrm that's a very good point. How do you feel about artists reminding watchers/past commissioners through shouts? Is that helpful or annoying?

I say it would be both at the same time. Having a link to the next account will help really and not deleting the original account. To be honest I don't normally watch artists I commission. I just find them and if I want their art again I find them again, which is the stand point I am going from. I just remember two examples on DA where I commissioned someone and they made a new account and deleted their account I commissioned them on and I could not commission them again. The second being someone I commissioned and then I wanted to get permission to post their art on my page, but I had to go through five accounts to get to their current account. So, if you are going to switch account please stay away from those examples.

Thanks for the advice! I definitely see how aggravating that must be. I plan on keeping this account up, and simply moving my artwork to scraps, with a link to my new account posted in both my journal and on my profile. You will always be able to find a simple way to reach me through this account. I wouldn't want to make someone go through 5 different accounts, that sounds awful.
