Who the fuck?! ID theft?

Ok, what the hell? Seems someone has been pretending to be me on Aol.
Now here's the strange part.
It seems the screen-name, matches mine exactly. In fact, someone was talking to them and it poped up in my window and I could see the other persons half of the convo (but not my own/the id theives.)
I have my IM's connected almost 27/4, so you'd think this would have happened before now (especially as the person s/he was talking to tells me they started talking 2 days ago.)
1) How the hell?
2) Why would anyone even try to steal my ID? I'm not a popular artist, I don't do commissions or even create art. People on my contact lists tend to know about the real me and wouldn't be fooled (especially by talk of doing an art project *rofl*.) Seriously... wtf?

My suggestions is to change all your passwords to something harder to crack/guess. A random string of letters/numbers. Don't forget to write it down!
Check your computer for virii too.
Oh, and add me to your aim list ^_^
I've changed all my passwords now.
Gonna do that now but I think I checked for them within the last 2 days (using Avast.)
Ok :) Added, but it say's your offline.
Do as Timba suggests, and as a security measure, don't use the same pass for all of your accounts and the like. (Learned the hard way...)
Also, IM the person he/she was talking to and try to figure out if it was a friend. If so, KICK THEIR ASSES! ^_^
Also, they'd have known better than to say they were doing an art project when they know I can't draw for shit :) [Well, except for free-hand copying of whatever I can look at.]
