Totem Catcher ideas and symbology, a WIP
With the coming new year I will be starting my own business making animal based dream catchers. Each web will be custom made, with pictures added as they are made. With every dream catcher, I will ask what the animal means for you, the person ordering the web, whether you follow the traditions of a specific culture, or several, or if you simply want fur, teeth, claws, feathers, etc. representing the animal (or from the animal where legal). These are some of the meanings of animals, and what materials would most likely be used, and this list will be added upon as I go and as I am asked about different animals, and see a need to add more. You do not have to just pick something from this list when you want to order a Totem Catcher.
If you have a fursona you would like a totem catcher of that has specific markings, or unusual colors, I may be able to make you a fursona catcher! Please bear in mind, though, that my available materials may not be as available in an unnatural animal color, like blue, or that I may not be able to get your specific shade.
The list of animals, meanings, and materials:
Alligator, Crocodile- I can get real skin at a reasonable price, or I can use stylized cowhide or faux leather. I can also get real teeth and claws, or synthetic.
Native American- symbol of status and power, helped with creation, mediator.
Mayan/South American- supporting the corners of the world, open to new beginings.
Egyptian- Sobek, weighing the souls of the dead, ultimate power, protection, fertility, discernment, judgement, authority,.
General- ancient, power, strength
Antelope- I can get real hides, depending on the species, but the price will be higher. I can use goat or cowhide to make a similar pattern. I can get my hands on real or synthetic horns, depending on the species.
General- adaptability, overcoming obstacles, intuition.
Badger- I can get real badger at a reasonable price, as well as teeth and claws.
Native American- creativity, persistance, strong willed, independent, aggressive when threatened, standing ground, connection to the earth, keeper of stories, knowledge of roots and herbs,
Bat- I will most likely use pieces from thin hides that are missing their fur to represent the bat, and where desired, I can get real or synthetic bat skulls
Native American- intuition, knowledge of surroundings, shamans, medicine man, seeing through illusion, communication, social connection, rebirth, empathy, prophetic dreams, commitment, devotion,
General- death, cleaning, night, new perspective,
I can make a more typical Vampire web if requested, bringing more of the scary features we associate with bats.
Bear- depending on the species, I can get certain types of bear fur at a reasonable price, or I can use other furs depending on the species and coloring desired. I can get teeth and claws, although they are more expensive, or I can use synthetics for a lesser price. There are other meanings depending on the species, just let me know and I can try to type some
General- both a mighty hunter, and a peaceful vegetarian, love of sweets, patience, hibernating, confidence, authority, nurturing, protective mother, imminent domain,
Scandanavian/Norse- Odin, warrior, ferocity, strength
Greek- Artemis, hunting prowess, power
Celtic- bravery, Artio, Thor, strength, warrior, grounded, Berne, lunar.
Native American- free in spirit, grander than its mass, unpredictability, ferocity, honored spirit of a warrior, powerful surge of courage and strength, motherhood, brother to the first people,
Beaver- I can get real beaver fur and tails at a mostly reasonable price, as well as real or synthetic teeth or skulls
General- production, creating, believing in dreams, diligence, quality family time, priorities, friend to all, complexity, simplicity, harmony in a changing environment, resourceful
Boar- I should be able to get some variety of boar fur, though it will most likely be Javalina, the boar native to Arizona. I can either get real or synthetic tusks
General- spiritual strength, organization, self reliance, fearlessness in trials and tribulations, endurance, standing up to yourself, facing problems head on
Bobcat- I can get real fur at a reasonable price, as well as teeth and claws, although if you would rather have synthetic teeth and claws it should be doable.
