Dear Creature.Comforts...

Remember a bit ago I asked some of you to please write us about what events are taking place in other past of the world? Well, our lovely
yelleena has stepped up and written me this note and I want to share it all with you!
((Keep in mind I haven't updated for a bit so this letter has been sitting in my inbox.))

For the most part day-light-saving has started so the early mornings are darkish again and the daytime is getting longer, doesn't get dark till 7.30 + pm means much more sun time. Chances to walk on the beach, do a little late gardening etc. It is as I type Spring. Our roses are in full bloom, the tomatoes and cucumbers are planted out, the parsley is blooming and the weather is as weird as all hell. hot and humid one moment, wet and windy the next then spry and sunny just to make the days interesting. Lovely sea breezes where I live in the evening though. Lot of people are trimming back the hedges, big bushes and trees. The blossom has all but dropped from the trees and baby fruit are now starting to appear. The school gardens are harvesting carrots and spinach.
Poultry: As far as poultry goes our chickens are laying like crazy, 12 eggs a day out of 16 hens and 1 turkey egg a day from one hen bird. And its nesting season...one of our hens is sitting on 3 eggs due to hatch mid Nov. the damn magpies are swooping more and more *wears bike helmet on walks* and several other birds are swooping too. Got a surprize when a baby starling just learning how to fly landed on our front wire screen door the other day...very fluffy, way cute in that ugly baby bird way, it's mum called it away and sort of half flew half fell to get its feed from her.
Halloween: Australia isn't much into Halloween but some do celebrate. Even though I don't personally celebrate it we often have the odd group of children walking the streets and they don't get much in the way of treats so I decorate my door to let them know that they are welcome and try to have some treats about the place...usually some wrapped candy, chocolate bars and crisps for the non candy eaters. I have had fruit as well but hey its Halloween and Halloween means candy to the majority.
Of course we don't actually have Thanksgiving but the shops have got merchandise out for Halloween, thanksgiving and Christmas.
School Life: South Australia has a four terms of school with two weeks break in between and six to ten weeks break over Christmas depending on if your in primary school or high school. As an adult student I have technically finished but am still listed as attending until Dec 16th. We don't have such long summer holidays like you do in America. We are in our last term for the year and the higher levels are all finishing up assignments and doing exams so there isn't a lot of time for other things.
Locally in Adelaide: we have no train services and plethora of main roads are closed because they're up grading the railway system and putting in a freeway at the same time. Traffic jams much...yes.
Personally: not doing a lot, focussed on getting over various viruses, bronchitis and similar issues, keeping up with the usual running of a household, cooking up meals yada, yada, yada and mum's a taxi service too.
I would love to hear from other states and territories in Australia as well as here about other southern hemisphere countries not to mention all the northern hemisphere.
How's that for an update...*hugs*

Well its nearing the end of spring now, the weather is still wacky. Update on the hens on eggs, one hen had three eggs unfortunately to some hot weather two chicks hatched but died, we wet down the straw nearby to her nest to increase the humidity and the last chick hatched hearty and healthy although we did have to give it a drink moments after hatching due to the heat, pepped up fast after that. There was a second hen on two eggs that both hatched successfully a week later...it was a cooler week. All chicks are growing rapidly and are doing well. All the chickens, roosters and turkeys are also doing well. Cats are great so is the dog and we now have an eight week old guineapig.
Summer is on its way, we have tomatoes on the vines slowly getting bigger as is the fruit on the nectarine and apricot trees. Lots of herbs going crazy and also starting to flower. Cucumbers are not doing as well but they will probably come around. Lost our sage bush but planning to plant new ones.
*hugs*
