One of my sister's rats had ovarian cancer. It got removed and she died anyway.

Turns out female rats get ovarian cancer if they don't reproduce quickly enough.

Really? Then if you get a female rat, you are going to have to let her mate or can you get her "fixed"? I love rodents but I always kill them. Every hamster I had die after a year. :/

I don't know if they can be fixed.

But yeah, it seems to be a good idea either to let a female rat you have breed, or just get a male one.

The rat we had was fucking smart, too. She liked to climb out of her cage, go into the air-condition ducts and wait for my younger sister under the vent in the family room, then squeak when she came by. We found her down there a lot. She also was trained to climb up my sister's arm and lick her ear on command.

Her name was Doris.

Was it sudden? My cat had a lump growing from her breast for a month but I couldn't afford to get it checked until today. He claimed I should have came to him right away.

Sadly, no.. I was the same way, I had gotten her checked up as soon as I noticed one of her nipples looked kind of swollen and was dripping blood. The vet quoted me a $1200 surgery right off the bat and I kind of hesitated and mulled over it for months until the thing grew so big it burst and I took her in again. By then it was pretty much too late. :/ I still blame myself, ugh.

I've seen a lot of small pets go in for cancer surgery, and only live a few painful months after it. If you want to go through with the operation, then go for it - but it might also be an option to forgo the surgery, and just make her comfortable and enjoy the time you have left. I would consult your vet and see if you could get your animal on some mild pain meds and just keep her home until the time comes =\

Everytime I touch her on or near the tumor area, she wails, like it really hurts her. I want her to feel better but I can barely afford her surgery and I know she would be in more pain afterward. My mom suggested I...well....put her to sleep. But I had Daisy for almost ten years so I am very much attached to her (She actually is me and my brother's cat.) and I guess is have hope that the surgery will help her. My other cat ran away from home for 32 days and found his way back. He was almost dead and lost all of his fat and muscle mass and was very dehydrated. He also was covered in his own shit and urine. The vet thinks he was probably trapped somewhere with no food or water for that long. I spent almost 400 dollars on different treatments to make him better and he survived to be a couple pounds over weight for a normal cat today. I guess I am willing to try and help her.

That's awesome that he came back! I agree 100% on your helping him back to health, as the things that happened to him were environmental, and curable. I also understand how you must feel awful for your girl - seeing her in pain, and knowing that there might be something you can do, but that it might not work.

I would probably go through with the surgery, if it were me in that situation, even knowing that it might not help. Then at least you can say you tried =\ Whatever you do, though, don't let her suffer after the surgery. If she keeps going downhill, let her go.

Honestly I think sickleye has a point here.. I did get my cat surgery, and she was okay for a while, but after one checkup where the vets scared the hell out of her she got really bad, really fast. If it weren't for the fact she had a gaping hole on her stomach I might have just let her be. She had to be medicated constantly after the surgery, which upset her a lot, and her breathing got worse and worse and eventually she just stopped eating.. once she got really bad after I tried to give her some medicine to get her to eat, she started flopping around and ugh, I took her into the vet for one last time.. she actually stopped breathing before the vet even got the euthanasia ready.

Sorry if I'm really not being much help. The vet might understand and offer to put her on pain medicine until she just goes on her own (the pain med's pretty cheap, about $30 for a 3 month supply where I got it) I just know I wish my cat hadn't been so traumatized and out of it by the end. :(

o shiz that sucks. I remember ~10 yrs ago my sister's Holland Lop (rabbit) "Nibbles" developed testicular cancer. My mom said it was probably not worth spending thousands of dollars to give a rabbit kemotherapy so we had him put down. I remember towards his last days one of his nuts got so huge that it seemed to like..... take over the 'normal' one. Gross.
Later I wondered if it had anything to do with all of those Quaker Oats oatmeal tins I put in his hutch and let him hump the hell out of.

Maybe the cans had radiation in it? j/k

I have no money and I put up a journal asking for cheap commissions. It looks like no one wants to pay for two dollar drawings....
