Evil Sibe to be on Dr. Phil?
Starting to hear this rumor being bandied about. For the upcoming Dr. Phil episode on Furries, it is being said that Evil Sibe was selected to represent the furry community.
Anyone know if this is true?
Here is why I hope it is not. Evil Sibe would probably have the goal of making his appearance a massive troll attempt, either on Dr. Phil or on the Furry community itself. However, the humor, if any, would be either edited out or completely lost on the uninitiated. A troll is not what we need right now on the Dr. Phil program...what we NEED...but sadly will not get because it doesn't bring ratings....is a level-headed rational person to appear on the show.
But Dr. Phil isn't about rational discussion...Dr. Phil is about intervention and addressing dysfunction. People watching it don't see a parade of happy families talking about how enriched their life is...they see people coming on whose lives are falling apart in one way or another. I fear this episode will simply be another diagnosis of "Furry is the problem."
That said, I use the term "fear" loosely. Whatever happens, our fandom will survive, as it always has, any time something like this comes up. Dr. Phil, being one of the most popular daytime TV programs, will likely deal us a very large blow, the effects of which could last for a long time...but...the fandom will still be here, and it'll be here long after the episode is forgotten, so take heart in that.

Please Sibe, for all of our sakes, be serious about this.
Hoo boy.
We are so toast.
"Vanity Fair, being one of the most popular magazines, will likely deal us a very large blow."
"CSI, being one of the most popular television dramas, will likely deal us a very large blow."
"MTV, being one of the most popular cable networks, will likely deal us a very large blow."
"Tyra Banks, being one of the most popular daytime TV programs, will likely deal us a very large blow."
And yet nobody ever actually gave a shit.
CSI, it can be argued, set our fandom back the most out of all of those, due to its wide reach. Dr. Phil has a wider reach than Vanity Fair, Salon, and Tyra Banks. So it's in a position to do as much to public perception as CSI did, perhaps a little less.
Everything you listed gave us a period of increased public ridicule, whether large or small, that we had to weather. It also helped to slow our growth and public appeal as a fandom during those times as well. That is the point I'm making.
As in, the percentage of people whose opinion of furries is "What the hell is a furry?" drops from 99.99999999% to 99.99999998%.
CALM YOUR MAMMARY GLANDS.
(I actually thought that was hilarious! hahahaha)
Truth is no mater how positive of a light you put on the fandom they will twist and contort it until it takes an entire community to show up and march in a parade then people will start to except it eventually but not fully. Sound familiar... is should, because the LBGT community when through the same thing, being the most recent, as many others have done before them. Civil Rights, Womens right to vote, and many other things throughout our history that all started with one simple act that caused a bunch of pissed off people to gather together and fight back against those that have done them wrong and given them bad names.
Being a member of the media myself I hate what TV, and movies has done to our fandom. I just wish the media would pick on the people that deserve to be ridiculed... Politicians. And for once I wish instead of showing the bad things that are such a small part of any community do their research and show the good as well. There are better ways to get ratings than the shit they do now. Sure some many not agree with me but still that's my opinion.
Both only for a short while till it's forgotten. I do have a sense that the fandom is overly sensitive to media (including Vloggers) coverage. Preferring to keep to the shadows, and when has that ever helped any group, imo.
I would imagine someone thought it would be funny to have Evil Sibe on the show and jokingly said it.
I think Dr. Phil is a hack anyway, but nothing good will come of it. It is assumed that there will be time to tell what you think, how you think etc. There will not be. The furries who will be on TV wil only be allowed to say something until the discussion is deflected, distracted or otherwise moved onto another topic. Why?
Because the TV network on which Dr. Phil has his show is interested in one thing; ratings. Ratings are equated to entertainment. Entertainment is more important than truth. The furries trod up there on his show are going to be made to look like fools.
