I have just read this article where a cat gets it's leg stuck in a Gin trap. This happened locally to me.
Before you visit the article I will warn you, some may find the images upsetting.

Gin traps are illegal to use in Britain. I actually found one down the dirt track at the side of moms old house, it wasn't set but I disposed of it. A child could have found it and played with it and before you know it have their hand trapped in it.
