4 years on FA and New Year's Resolution

Hey guys, I can't believe it's been this long but I've been on FA for 4 years xD. I didn't think I'd be on here for this long but it has been quite an experience.
It's been amazing to get myself out there and have a good portion of people see the stuff I like to draw. That and getting feedback (good or bad) is always something interesting to look into to see what people have to say. Flexing my artistic muscles to better myself has probably been one of the most satisfying moments on here =]
Though there's always downsides to being on here. I'll probably say, after talking with most of the artists I admired before I even began drawing on here, 90% of them didn't really care about anything I had to say to them. It didn't really matter whether or not I drew them something. It just was kind of disappointing to actually interact with them. I find it funny that my best friends I met on here didn't even end up being artists at all haha. I guess drawing stuff for popular artists so that "Senpai can notice me" was probably my biggest regret I ever had on here haha xD. I've told some of my newbie artist friends about this and now I'm telling any aspiring artist reading this. Draw for YOU, your friends, and draw for fun. If you draw for someone's attention, most likely they won't care if your art skills are subpar compared to their own (probably...maybe...haha). Not only that but doing art for that is doing it for the entirely wrong reason. Besides, it seems that fame hits you whenever you aren't searching for it lol.
Which brings me to my resolution. Definitely cutting back on giving gifts of any kind this year. I've had some bad experiences this year with giving gifts, even non art ones :I. I personally like getting surprise gifts but I guess others simply don't care haha. But yeah, it might be a weird one but I'm going to try to be more of a selfish d-bag this year lol xD. Well not really, I guess I'll just give stuff to my close friends =3
So anyways, here's to another year! And if you guys have any resolutions, I'd love to hear it =]

As for the artist noticing part, the problem with most "famous/popular" artists is that SOME of them are complete douche bags to anyone OUTSIDE their "friend circle". Other sadly, tend to be too freaking busy with tending their messages with people trying to kick their asses for "a piece of DAT ASS". (their art and getting it for free with no regard of the artist behind it)
Yeah I figured that to be the case right away. I personally don't know how some artists can keep that many people in their friends list entertained when you got 30+ people talking to you at once. That and it's real common to have cliques and stuff in High school. I'm shouldn't be that surprised to see it on here too lol. But yeah, it's tough to be one of the insiders. xD
But good on ya, you should draw more for yourself~
Thanks xD. Though, I haven't forgotten the cool stuff you did for me man. You shall get your just rewards one day haha.
Draw for myself, my friends and for fun.
Those words cannot be said any more true
But yeah. Draw what you want, and when you want. Best of luck to you in 2014 *hugs*
I don't know. i just don't want other people who were in my situation experience that. But hey, that's reality. Sometimes you gotta taste the bitterness of life to enjoy the sweetest moments.
Same to you dude. Best of luck to you and I hope that you can overcome whatever endeavors you face =]
You can never lose when it comes to doing something to make you happy I must say haha. Making other people happy...now that's a tough one x3
Hey sure. Go ahead and hit me up in a note or something. I won't bite =3
I guess it just hurts when people that you admire so much don't give a dragoness' booty about you =\. It's just hard for me to accept i guess haha
But then again. Jerks will be Jerks. Glad I have you as a friend though =]
It is really awesome to have a friend who can draw real awesome so the two of you can do a bunch of cool collabs and stuff. When you are one out of the several dozens of people trying to befriend that person though, that's when it's real tough xD
This is true, but compared to him, my stuff's mediocre. Collaborations would be hard to do. ^^;
My new years resolution, not to be so hard on myself with everything
I know all about that xD. Don't worry dude. You're only one guy and you're still young and kicking. Have the lifelong regrets when you're 60 and live the present to the fullest =]
Two ends of the spectrum but similar in a few ways, you know?
And congrats on your 4 years of staying here. Here's to another 4. *Hugs* ^^
Another 4? Man...if another 4 passes by then It would be the equivalent of going to med school xD. haha thanks man =]
As for gifts, I suggest only giving them to people who TRULY deserve it, such as friends and people who are polite.
You're welcome, buddy. *hugs* ^^
And yeah, I can definitely understand the gifting thing; especially if you're trying to make something for someone that's fairly big in the fandom. I don't make much giftart for a lot of the big artists, not out of any kind of cynicism or anything though; more because 9 times out of 10, I just feel like I wouldn't be able to do their characters justice. ^_^;
Plus, how does that saying go? "Never meet your idols, for they'll only disappoint you?" Something like that? :?
Either way, meeting your heroes (from whatever you're into, not just this fandom) usually just doesn't end well; not usually because they're a jerk (all things considered, that's actually kinda rare) but more because you realize that they're just people, like everyone else. And like everybody else, they'll only really go out of their way for people that they actually know and like, and will likewise ignore everyone else (you know, because how would you feel if a stranger from out of nowhere just walked up and asked you if they could get your opinion on their characters/artwork/erotic fan-fiction, when you're just trying to check your messages so you can go about the rest of your day?). =p
Anyway though, it's cool that you've been around for so long and here's hoping you'll be around for a good while yet. =3
Haha, that sure is humble of you. But I can understand where you're coming from. When ones art is the equivalent of a child's chicken scratch when compared to a great artist then it really wouldn't be doing them justice xD. That and if they're popular, they probably get gift art all the time so it isn't that big of a deal as it would be for a fairly unknown artist getting one.
Yeah i do believe that is a saying like that. I mean, it is a thing for some heroes to be as epic as they are portrayed to be. But yeah, most people are just people. It's disappointing when you learn the truth haha.
The thing is, i never talk about erotic stuff or whatever that you mentioned. I approach them as a normal person and just see what we have in common. I'm sure others are like that (I've dealt with my fair share).
Since you said it that way, it makes sense that people would exclude other people they don't know. Regardless of what they do for you, you can still just blow them off just cuz you don't really know them all that much. From that, It's easy to view that as them just being jerks by being treated badly. It's one of the reasons why I should continue to expect the worst from people haha.
I suppose. I'm just a lot more wiser at this point haha.
I think you're on the right track with just drawing what makes you happy, too. I think that sort of thing is reflected in your work, too; you can usually tell when an artist really enjoyed working on something, and when they were just sort of forcing something for the sake of getting it done.
I think i'm coming to 3 myself, account hopping included :3c
But this.
Reading this reminded me of coming to this decision myself a few months back, if anything it just hurts you more than anything else.
Just doing what you fancy for who or whatever makes it a lot more fun to do though <3
Here's hoping this year'll be better for you in that regard~
Seen a few mention it above but yeah, i'd love to talk with you sometime down the line, you seem real neat c:
That's what i've heard a lot of people say. Just do what you love and fame will follow...or maybe it won't lol but who cares, you had fun haha. The best part is to make your friends happy or make them laugh or aroused...whatever xD That's what really matters in the end =]. Just wish I would've learned that earlier. x.x
Yeah, same to you man =]. Go ahead and give me your skype or something. We can totally chat it up or whatever haha.
But yeah, its real simple when you look at it, its a hobby that relies on self enjoyment, it just seems common sense to do what you want to do! Though we all seem to ignore this for a good period of time >w>;
But yes! Long as it keeps people interested, smiling, whatever, then you're doing something right :3 And i'm sure you will regardless of what you choose to draw~
But yeah, i'll shoot you a note in a bit when i'm not busy sketching stuff x3
Personally i'm happy where i am right now. =]. I'm in the right place haha.
Haha, that would be cool. Should definitely do a Collab one day =].
