He's also been shown to handle the situation awfully, from victim-shaming to joking about it in other ways.
People are angry because, even if the rape didn't happen, the way he's handling the situation and some of the creepy things he did are putting off, because he's been given a position of power. He can read peoples private notes and being even creepier.
And people are angry at the staff for simply hiding comments which call Zaush out, rather than actually stating their case.

Having never read the note myself, I believe 'Neer didn't think it was "real" rape because it wasn't the rough, aggressive type, he just coerced someone into having sex with him who didn't want to. Which is rape.
Well, then you'd be wrong, not only because you're bringing in hearsay, never having read the notes firsthand, then taking conjecture, guesses and presenting it as truth. Don't do that man!

Fact: the note where Dragoneer advises against airing this in public is BEFORE the victim mentioned it was Zaush.
Fact: Dragoneer never threatened to silence or shame her, he merely said going public would cause a shitstorm. He was right.
Fact: The victim ASKED FOR THIS TO REMAIN PRIVATE, and while Dragoneer did not handle this as well as he could have, when a rape victim asks you to keep that confidential, you do. He couldn't ban Wan or something and not also air this as the reason why.
Dragoneer didn't make perfect moves years ago with this, but I completely understand why he did what he did. The more recent stuff is a wholly new issue, something I'm inclinded to agree with you about, but he didn't 'shield' Zaush back then, and he is not a trained rape counselor. He could not do anything significant in this case.

Dude, this was right around the time Allan got banned for 'the good of the community', banning a prominent artist (Zaush is like #2 or #3 for total watchers*) without giving a reason would have caused SUCH a shitstorm, and drawn the issue into public, which is EXACTLY WHAT THE VICTIM DID NOT WANT. Although the irony might be that he would have set up shop at Weasyl and encouraged his groupies to go there instead.

Yes, and this is a concern, along with censorship and whatnot. Not denying that, but said events transpired years ago, and nobody batted an eye. If you don't like Zaush, don't like FA, Chance, Dragoneer, or whatever, it's fine to use recent events as ammunition against them. So in a sea of coding nerds, 'Neer chooses the guy who is likely to cause the most drama, and then proceeds to handle said drama badly. 'Oy...
So after she tells him who the person is who coerced her into having sex, and people find out about this, he denies that Zaush assaulted her at all, even when Zaush says otherwise. And then, knowing full well about the accusations against Zaush, he fires the coders working on the site in favor of giving the keys to the kingdom to a popular sexual predator.
That is disgusting and fucked up and even entertaining the thought that 'Neer was anywhere close to being in the right makes me sick. He's enabling a rapist and he clearly does not give a shit about rape victims.

The victim specifically ASKED HIM TO BE QUIET ABOUT THIS. That's clear in the notes. She went to him seeing if he could do something behind the scenes, which is not a very well thought out move, as not only can't he really without exposing the situation, but he's hardly the proper authority.
Honestly, his options were to:
-Ban Zaush, which could not happen without EVERYONE wanting to know why, airing her victimization.
-Forward notes to the other female artists mentioned, in which turn they would probably just not take it seriously, or take it with authenticity given he'd have to structure anything secondhand to protect her identity. Not that this is a protection against rape, at all.
-Contact the authorities himself, in which case this is all over the internet, he has even less evidence than her, and less likely for the investigation to go anywhere.
The right thing for 'Neer to have done was to advise the victim to go to the police, instead of telling her to keep quiet.
Yes, totally agreed, but as I said, 'neer isn't a trained person with regards to rape. Even still, this is just advise. Advise telling the victim to do something she seemed to already know she should do. Something she eventually did anyway.

No, he made a bad PR move (and more later trying to cover that) and is taking the benefit of the doubt to Zaush in this case. So FA should hold itself to a higher standard than the police that investigated this matter is what you're saying? Because you know what they did with that evil maybe racist? Nothing.
Zaush's guilt really isn't relevant. He's not Schrodinger's cat, he's either a rapist or not, but you have no certainty of knowing. I have no certainty of knowing. Only two people do, and they were in that room. Since that event years ago, it seems decisions at the top level of FA about the nuts and bolts of the site's software and coding have been disastrously chosen. That's actually a good reason to jump ship, I'll give you that.
However, the current issues about favoritism, censorship, cronyism or them-vs-us coding team tribalism is just that. Trying to make it about rape or 'rape enabling' is really disingenuous and very disrespectful to the victim.
