I know, but everyone actually doesn't want anyone with that label to be on staff, and I couldn't care any less about it, but you know furries... they'd blow everything out of proportions.
True dat. I've been on this site since I was like 14 and I thought most of the furry drama was petty then. I can't believe how immature furies can be. These are 20, 30, 40 year olds and I would wager that they act less mature than middle schoolers. I guess it's probably the vocal minority more than anything. I would hope so anyway.
It does affect some people though. If one truly feels it is morally reprehensible to financially support a person they believe to have committed some great wrong, then their only recourse is withdraw support.
That's a very good plan, but for some people it's not enough. Personally, I'm not taking any sides here, though I've been using ad blocker on this site for a long while (mostly because the ad placements are aesthetically unappealing to me, not to mention some of them were just so crappy looking).
I just feel like you're not really doing anything by moving though. I mean who knows what type of people facebook hires or google or *insertlargecompanyhere* Idk if someone moves sites over something like this I feel like they'd be missing out on the community than hurting the people who made the site.
Yeah, I agree with you for the most part. But if someone feels better leaving, I'm not going to blame them. We all have our opinions, and I've long since grown tired caring about the opinions of people I hardly know. In the end, though, I feel like more people testing out the waters on Weasyl was the catalyst that spurred the FA administration to finally try and update the site, so all in all, it's a good thing for us users.
The famous furry artist Zaush, who was accused of rape about 4 years ago, was recently promoted to admin/programmer of FA.
Furries being furries, didn't take to that too well and started starting up a storm. Admins started banning these people for stating their opinions, and drama ensued.
More furries didn't like this, so they get all butthurt and whiny, because they can't stand up for anything and apparently dissapearing will get rid of drama (which it never does), and left FA.
Now, the same bullshit will eventually happen to Weasyl, and they don't even realize it yet.
The day that all furries realize that drama is inevitable and just put the big boy pants on and learn how to deal with it, instead of running away, is the day this fandom will be at its best.
She posted on her journal here on FA that she drove 3 hours out of her way to be alone with Adam for the weekend knowing full well of his history of being persistant in wanting to have sex with her. She never once said he used force but was only persistant in his request. She admitted to consenting to have unprotected sex instead of leaving. She stayed the rest of the weekend instead of driving away and seeking the police (WTF!). The reason there is no police report or any police involvment is because there was no rape. How can she or any of her supporters claim how serious this situation is if they themselves refuse to take the matter to the police? Arn't they the ones taking this 'serious' event lightly? I can tell you why. They would have laughed her out of the station.
Being persistant in wanting to have sex (with no force) is annoying and rude but not a crime. Consenting to unprotected sex, hanging around for days afterwards, then regretting it later and yelling 'rape' is reprehensible.

As for the link you provided, I did not read it as I got the news first hand from her own journal here when the event happened (or didn't for that matter). Stories can morph and get embellished over time. IF there is now a police report convicting Adam, then I would have to change my mind, but till then, I do not agree with 'guilty till proven innocent'.
I agree with the logic you're going with for the most part here, but the problem is very much that when sexual crimes like rape happen, sometimes the one who's been subjected to it will try to rationalize or explain it away, that kind of thing. That being said, it really IS hard to feel like it's rape when she stayed there even after, but the girl apparently does have (or at least had) some mental heath stuff going on, and may have contributed to all of this...but really, that just shows that this country needs to start taking mental health more seriously.
Zaush is a dick in my mind, to be sure, but I am firmly on the side of "innocent until proven guilty" and the American Legal System in general on this one.
I also am not defending Adam's actions and I agree with you that some victims of rape do try to rationalize the event but her journal was very specific and showed no indication of actual rape either physical or mental. I am just not comfortable with people throwing the word 'rape' around so frivolously. Rape is VERY serious and this situation is a slap in the face to women who actually went throught the trama of being raped.
Anyhow I don't mean to linger on this, it is just so infuriating to see how this 'yelling fire in a crowded theatre' type situation has gotten out of hand.
That's actually a very accurate description of the situation. And a good lesson of why keeping a level of calm isn't a bad idea.
Also, women AND men. It's traumatic regardless of gender, after all, and I tend to agree with the view that male rapes are under-reported and written off far too much in our society, but that's a different issue entirely.
If you think this is fun there's a whole different set of drama over an admin appointment going on over on the forums too. DOUBLE TROUBLE DOUBLE FEATURE!
I think you are one of the reason why furries are seen as crazyheads right now. If you are this crazy about an online site as opposed to REAL LIFE ISSUES, then I feel sorry for you, dimwit
Internet jargon, he's not crazy, just being obnoxious.
Furries always have and forever will be recognized as "crazyheads".
The internet is more of a second life so don't be treating it as if nothing on here has ever counted considering we host Fur-Cons frequently. Everything said online especially on F.A can be easily be dragged into real life.
Rapists are not okay, any attempt to justify the individual is already a losing battle.
Gourd is being very blunt but raises the issues perfectly. That still doesn't excuse him though.
Of course rapists are not okay, but, like all furry drama's before hand (allan/inkbunny issue/ect..) it's a big storm, and then dies down because people get bored of that said drama. This witch hunt is unnecessary imo. That also doesn't mean I need death threats from fellow furries for not joining in on their crusade, because I've had them sent to me through PM's. That alone makes me see this entire situation as a joke.
Wait, WTF? You've had death threats over not joining them? I've been vocal in defending the accused's rights to not be demonized for a crime he hasn't been proven to have commityed a crime and heard NOTHING like that! What the hell?! x.x
I won't name the people (as a good portion of them were on tumblur and 2 here), but yes, apparently if i don't join the crusade to bring an exodus to FA, i need to end my life as a passive person who supports a rapist, which is what they said to me, and not in a joking matter
Thank you, and true. I still have a large portion of my life to go through/explore, so to take advice from from psychopaths would be a bad move. Though, i do hope this thing blows over really quick, because I've never seen something this crazy before
Well, anyway, this is the danger of mob mentality. People get so caught up in what's going on, they entirely forget these are PEOPLE and not just soulless beings being accused.
That's all drama everywhere. It always dies down, so let the people do w.e they want. Death threats to join a cause not worth fighting should be responded to with great sarcasm and hilarity.
And that is true, after the 3rd death threat, i was like "okay, now i see where your priorities are" and just blocked them, though for tumblur, I justavoid those parts of the posts

Here's the best explanation I have found so far. It's long, but it has it's evidence compared to many that try to just mouth it out.

Never seen anything this bad, though? Didn't you see the Monica Lewinsky scandal when Bill Clinton was president?
