GLFC con report
, and I all arrived at GLFC late Thursday afternoon. After getting checked in we went down to the registration and helped finish setting things up, as well as making signs and helping with the badges. The rest of the night went quietly, we ordered food in and went swimming. I think that Thursday night was the latest night that I stayed up the whole weekend.
Friday morning and we went down to the free breakfast that was included. I wasn't expecting it, but the breakfast was really nice. After that I sat down across from registration and helped Lafrin with stuffing the con book bags. Hyler and Xavier were doing security so I didn't see them very much.
My panel I felt was a total flop. I had 1 1/2 hours to fill. I figured would be no problem, I had enough material and I figured I was allowing enough time for the questions that I was sure to receive. Well I got through all of my material and figured I would have the last 30 minutes or so for questions....and nobody had any! So the panel got cut a little short. But people were coming up to me throughout the rest of the con and said I did a wonderful job! So not a total waste after all!
Friday night I worked the con suite and had a great time. Though I couldn't tell you how to change a tap if my life depended on it! Luckily, I had several people in there at all times that knew how to so I didn't have to worry about breaking the one and only working tap we had. The biggest issue was the group of cheer leaders and the equestrian team that was also staying in the hotel, so extra security to make sure that things went smoothly!
Saturday was kind of a blur. I was basically just running around and helping with the convention. And talking with the staff members about what can be done to improve things for next year to make them even better. For a first year con this even went really well to be honest. I worked con suite again that evening and had a very lovely chat with
and also received a gorgeous silver coyote pelt from her. This thing is bigger then my other one, and I love how fur looks. We also briefly talked about doing some panels together next year, which I think will improve them immensely, especially the fursuit building one.The parade went well, and you know that the hotel staff loves you when they are telling you not to start until they can all be there to see it. I also thought that the ear tags that the suiters were given were a really nice touch.
Sunday was the day that I felt like I had a hangover, even though I had not had a drink all weekend. It was a very sluggish day but I at least got to set up in Artist Alley for a few hours. Sold mostly bandanas but also got a tail commission and two hoodie commissions I look forward to working on. Around 6ish we left the convention, they seemed to have things covered and we were all so tired that getting home was the best thing for us to do.
Overall the convention was fun and for it being the first year I can only see it continuing to grow from here. I am super excited to be helping with the convention and being more than just a volunteer next year. That's right, I will be helping staff the convention as well! I truly love doing it, and it gives me something to do at the con besides just spending money, and doing the little bit of drinking that I do.
TL;DR- GLFC was awesome and I encourage anyone that can to go next year and see how much we can improve from there!
