painting question

This might be a stretch, but any of you know much about glazing?

Yeah, I've been trying to stay away from internet sources because every site that I've been to that gave instructions were vary vague or way too complicated. I've also been trying to ask around with people I know, but it seems that glazing is too archaic for them or they didn't even know what it was.

In terms of oil paints, or in terms of painting on ceramics?

Yeah, I've done some glazes in my day. What are your questions?

OP
I was wondering if the surface of the painting affects the glaze, because all of my stuff is messy and uneven. I was also wondering, would it harm some no-oil paint material, specifically gold leaf. Sorry for the lame question, no one I know knows anything about glazing and I don't want to jump into something that I might accidentally fuck up.

Okay, I see what you mean. This question comes up with me often, because taking traditional art seriously means that I may eventually face the concept of collectors aiming to purchase archival pieces. As is, I enjoy creating without consideration for archival things. I will soak paintings in substance that may destroy them completely, so I can't give you suggestions beyond saying try it out on something else first. So my suggestion is to potentially ruin something and get that experience as early as possible.

OK, that makes sense...and is really obvious...huh. I've got plenty of stuff that I can destroy and test it with.
