I have slowly but steadily noped the fuck out of the furry fandom. Like I still have two fursonas, and I still want to make fursuits (and plushies and cosplays!) as my occupation, a few years down the road, but I just don't want to deal with furries. Thats sounds so awful. haha Creatively and professionally, furries are a joy to collaborate with, and work for. But generally sex kind of makes me uncomfortable, (i fave a lot of nsfw art because its at a safe distance, it is very nice artwork and its not real and it doesnt involve me) and a lot of furries made sexual advances on me in furry-only communities, in addition to my being bullied in furry-only communities. This is not to say I think all furries behave this way, or that I am anti-furry. Most of my real-life friends are furries, and I am very comfortable with them, because I've come to know them as people, rather than cartoon characters on the internet... I would just prefer not to be in situations where I am surrounded by strangers who think we are the same because we both like anthropomorphic characters. We are very different, because we are human, and all humans are very different. (I am not trying to generalize. I am trying to avoid the minority, not the majority, but the bad apples have made me shy of being in apple-only communities! haha Oranges and bananas are cool too yknow, so if a rad apple comes to me where theres a lot of diversity I'm not gonna feel so nervous! o-o)
ANYWAYS lol
I became a furry as a child, because I had a massive disconnect with my human identity, as I didnt understand that being transgendered was a thing. (How could I? I was a five year old girl [*cringe*] raised to be a closed-minded bible thumper....) As Ive gotten older I've come to understand more about myself and who I really am. This has helped to close the gap between who i am and who i hid behind. Coming out as being transgendered has helped me to feel that I can be myself, and I needn't hide behind a cartoon character all the time. While its still fun to have fursonas that represent me in fictional situations, or short cartoons i draw (because drawing humans is still kind of hard! haha) it is no longer a crutch for me mentally and socially.
That being said, you may have noticed that I am rarely on fa. I am not quitting. This site has too much wonderful art, and too many wonderful people for that, but I AM explaining my absence. If you need to get a hold of me, the best way to do so is by shooting me an ask on my tumblr, Goostuck. If you'd like to any art trades, or PWYW commissions (which go to buying myself a chest binder) that's the place to do it. Thank you all for everything, and if you have any questions regarding this post, or anything else, please do not hesitate to contact me! :)
