PVP or PVE ?

Awoo ! Hi everyone ^.^ !
What kind of online games do you prefer ?
Player Vs Player or Player Vs Enemy ?
And why ?
I prefer PVE games over PVP games for a "mentality" matter, people in PVE games tends to be more friendly and "open" to others than in PVP games, even in the related forums and message boards.

On competitive games when you play on real time actions instead of based turn ones, PVP of course. You don't need to talk people and socialize, just beat'em up on the racetrack or on the battlefield.
I'm already excited when I get my new PC so I can properly start playing DayZ. The mod, tho. Because for now, the Standalone is more PVE. You gather loot, run around and shoot people in the head with like a handfull of Zombies in 5h.
I enjoy both, but I've been favoring more of cooperative play than competitive over time.
PvP is competitive and challenging. That human element is a powerful draw to me, especially with a human opponent. There are different levels of satisfaction that can be derived in battling other humans. Usually the highs are much higher for players (winning) and the lows are much lower too (losing).
PvE can be a lot of fun depending on the game itself. Usually with friends, PvE is the way to go. Relaxing, casual, and less likely to have a negative experience too. AI opponent do have a tendency to be predictable or dumb, but it all depends on the game. A story or thrill (fear) based games do not need to have a comprehensive AI, but enough to get the task accomplished.
Note that even with PvP, there can be a lot of predictability in upper tiers of competitive play due to the metagaming element. There are methods and strategies incorporated to certain PvP games that trounces others. Think of chess in this aspect. There are openers that are more powerful than others depending on the strategy you wish to implement, and if the opponent is knowledgeable and competent, he or she can predict what the next few moves will be, and deviation from those moves can lead to more opportunities which he or she can exploit.
PvP is fine sometimes like in FPS like Halo and goldeneye or some racing games [fun, not simulation] but in general it's just annoying.
For anything else, PvE.
Trovo che avere variazione all' interno dello stesso gioco possa essere interessante!
PvE for any game you want to be attached to. Like say Civilization. You pour your heart into your cities, your people.... the last thing you need is someone razing them and taunting you for it. MMORPGs are the same. PvP is just inviting grief. Yes you come back to life, but there is that attachment to your character.
Take other simple games, like World of Tanks/Planes/Boats, TF2, etc.... the games where there isn't anything at stake if you lose. PvP can be quite fun and enjoyable because there isn't that attachment if you lose. You just start a new game. Persistant worlds like EVE Online..... not a chance. I play games to have fun, not to dread having been killed or raided when I sleep.
I will exclude the Left4Dead series though. For some reason people in that game are so crazy and rabid... .___.;
I much rather work with several or in some cases in FFXI 64 people to defeat a whole zone and the boss and have the comradely and fun with others.
A thing I like about certain PVP games though, (specially tactical) is that the opponent may be smarter than a bot. I sometimes better enjoy a quality defeat than a boring victory.
It depends.
Everyone vs. Everything
Oddly enough the game is EVE Online. Remember Kids, not purple shoot it.
The Pvps I truly enjoyed were: Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Twisted Metal 2, Vigilante 8, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye 64, Vigilante 8, Tekken 2, Worms...so what kind of PvP do I enjoy? The Deathmatch styled ones, which doesen't rely on being overpowered or imbalanced. These games were mostly fair with it's choices, gear, and the matches were giving a true feeling of competing on the same level.
MMORPG PvP isn't fun, because there will be always injustice and cheating going on, and there is too much difference between playable characters. I prefer a fair fight, where one can win with their own skill, experience, and winning or loosing is OFTEN decided on luck. That always leaves a more enjoyable experience, and it leaves no bad aftertaste: Lost a round on Mario Kart 64? Next round you will win! Mortal Kombat? 1 minute long matches -> you are bound to win some! If it's a fair fight, then it's good PvP
Then again I love PvE better. In MMO I lok forward in Co-Op gameplay like the one in L4D!
