Another fact that I've known for so long, is that if every semi stopped running for a single day in America, it would take over 4 years for the nation to recover just for that one day.

Thats the thing, most people don't understand how important we are. Most just look at us as an inconvenience, something that needs to fuck off and get out of their way. If we stopped, so would everything else.

I know how it is when for your a semi driver. My dad used to be one for about 2-3 years.

He's a better one for ya. I work across the street for a dispatch now. it has its own traffic light. People run that light all the time because they want to beat the truck. We got pissed off at work so we blocked to road with 3 cars while the entire lot cleared out.

From an ex driver, another note about shutting down for just 1 day .... it would send a message to the bloated oil companies that make several BILLION $'s each quarter, most people don't think that the average truck carries 200 - 300+ gallons of fuel, add that up to all the trucks on the road and that's a lot of diesel, there is no reason for fuel to be the price it is, I am thinking of selling my diesel pickup due to fuel prices, it's just crazy nuts. rant over. SB.

I agree. Rising fuel costs and insurance rates, government regulations that get more ridiculous by the day like the CSA points system where now every accident a truck is involved in it goes against the professionals driver's record even if it wasn't their fault and they keep adding stupid rules to the HOS regs, and the big carriers doing everything they can to buy out and kill the small mom and pop operations...the industry as a whole is going downhill.

Yeah I hear ya buddy, I learned all my logging skills in the early 80's, I would have no clue how to do it today with all the electronics and such, all I can say is that I'm glad I am retired from all that rat race. Be safe out there bud. *hugs Kalak*
