Maybe what he should have done is go a gijinka or kemonomimi route...humanized but with some animal traits? It would definitely steer further away from "rip-off" status. And real-life Echidnas have smaller ears of a sort, so I think a gijin-style may have worked better for him.

Yep...Sega just had to visually make Knuckles look different from Sonic in design. In reality...Echidnas and Hedgehogs have visual similarity. Thus everything that came after Sega's design is very skewed anyways.

Well, that explained why her dad look so different in Sonic Boom - massive-size Echidna. If we went that way, then Lara-Su should be Boom Knuckles' daughter after all.

Alternate universe is good, but because of trademarks and copyrights she still can't be Sega's Knuckles the Echidna's daughter. I think it would be great if Penders would write something new, not fan-based. He's a talented writer, I think he could do something truly original with his characters and redevelop them into something completely original.

Yeah, just like Sonic Boom - which is unique universe, not rebooted story. :\
