I'm a bit of a train wreck when it comes to grammar. Does anyone know, or have a strong grasp of the english language that could help me understand punctuation?

I am havin issues decifering when to use periods and commas in creative writing. I asked a few people and they reffered me to the purdue owl for the rules. So I got that to study for a while. Was seeing if anyone had any quick tips.

OWL is great, and actually reading sentences out loud is even better. A comma tends to go where a natural pause would lay if you spoke the sentence instead of reading it. A period lays at the end of the sentence, which is normally a slightly longer pause. That's my quick and dirty trick!
