Well alright.
Desperaux had a very promising plot. The artwork is simply beautiful and the character designs are spot on.
This movie however suffered from story A.D.D. We started off with one character and were not introduced to the main character until 20 minutes into the feature. We had the chef's story, the princess' story,the girl from the farm's story, her father's story, and the king's story. This kind of thing made it seem like the book was too big to fit into one movie.
If we had kept our main focus on our Rat friend at the beginning, Desperaux, and the Princess it would have been fine. (Possibly make the King the incidental antagonist).
Do not get me wrong each individual story had a lot of promise. But because they tried to attack each individual story in such a short period of time, each story suffered. What needed to have happened was to keep to the Bill Peet style of writing.
It's a real shame, I was looking forward to this movie. Owell.

With all commissions now completed. I'm ready to take on some new ones. I'll be opening up 5 slots. Since due to previous sales patterns I don't typically do a whole lot of business, I figured 5 would be enough. Plus just in case things do get a little hectic, 5 is a manageable number.

The part with the cook and the land of food, OMG! It was line playing Odin Sphere again.
But now I can tell you.
I actually find a lot of the designs very... unappealing.
A lot of the characters (Despereux especially) have beedy, unexpressive eyes. It makes it very hard to want to connect with them.
The designs are interesting and different, but... I dunno.
I'd still like to try and see it though, despite the story flaws you speak of. Just so I can see for myself.
But yeah go see it. I just wanted to throw down how I felt ya know?
