To all my supporters, watchers, and friends-
11 years ago

Thank you all so much for your positive energy, watches, and nice comments. I was really scared today was gonna be a huge flop, and that I was going to have a lot of bad energy/have to even leave the fandom. I'm SO glad that I made many of you feel more comfortable with yourselves and with the fandom. ;w;
Again thank you SO much! Its all very much appreciated! :)))
Culpeo~

You were pretty fugging awesome culp
Im surprised, it seems like he was bashing the whole episode, then when it came to you all was good
We all are one big family, and we will stick together, no matter what anyone thinks of us.
Tough economy, especially if you don't have a diploma or GED.
The GED test is super simple, I'd recommend you get the GED, and see if you qualify for any financial aid and go to community college.
Once you take a few classes you can start putting "Some college" on job applications; which helps tremendously :P
I suggest next time you make commission money that you give a little of the money to your mom to prove that you're working toward something.
Best of luck to you.
How's your mom taking it?
Getting a degree, an apartment, a job, and all that jazz is actually more complicated than Dr. Phil made it sound--especially for our generation these days--so if you ever need advice or just an open ear, feel free to drop me a line.
I'm sure many of us would be glad to help you in that regard!
It must of been pretty intimidating and scary to be on television. And as a guest on the Dr. Phil show of all people.
But you made it through and you made the fandom happy. <:3
All we can do is show the people who don't know the fandom to educate them and be the nicest people we can be. <:3
You did good, kid. You did real good. <:3
*pats your back and hugs*
I think you did as good as job as you could.
Your mom...wow...I hope things get better for you.
I wish you luck on your future!
And Dr. Bowling Ball Head, the sensationalist pig that he is, just said 'you need a 40-hour job'. DO YOU KNOW HOW FUCKEN HARD IT IS TO GET THAT KIND OF WORK OUT THERE IN THIS DAY AND AGE?! DO YOU?? I DO!! I'VE BEEN TRYING AND I HAVE A BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE IN ENGLISH - CREATIVE WRITING!!
Also, education is not fucken cheap. It is so fucken expensive. It just kills me inside on what students have to deal with today. I have a good friend of mine who keeps fighting against all the tuition hikes that keep going on in California's universities, making it FUCKEN IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to get a good education and that stupid fucker just simply says 'you need a job and an education.." FUCK YOU!!!! He fucken thinks it is so simple. It is easy as pie to get an education and career when the pay rate just keeps fucken rocketing up, making lower to middle class people suffer and suffer WHILE THIS FUCKER CAN GO ON NATIONAL TV AND TELL US TO GET A JOB LIKE IT'S SO FUCKEN SIMPLE!!
It's not. It's so not.
Sorry, Culpeo. I had to go on that rant. That fucker just pissed me right the fuck off on how he treated you. You didn't deserve that and it was bullshit. a 'helmet'. FUCK OFF!!!
Culpeo, you looked so smart and pretty. You handled yourself so well and you did such a good job. All of those fuckers don't know shit about what it takes to actually live and survive in today's world. They really don't. I do, though. I'm still suffering and trying to find a job. It's fucken ridiculous and it's wearing me down going to interview after interview and just getting pushed aside. Hell, most of the time, i'm not even seeing people. I'm just going through online applications and questionnaires. ONLINE APPLICATIONS AND QUESTIONNAIRES!! It's downright bullshit.
Sorry, sorry. Too much of a rant. Just wanted that you did a great job and i'm happy to be your friend. TTFN. ^_^
Because he did not say that.
What he said, in his words. "That is not a job. That is not a job unless you're doing it 40 hours a week and getting paid for it."
IN other words, he was saying it's not a job unless it's making you enough to live on.
Way to put words into his mouth he never said folks.
You can certainly have a job as a professional or freelance artist but it's not easy. Entirely possible but it might take some time. Overall I think Culpeowolf did pretty well on the show. That segment ended up a whole lot better then I thought it would actually. Great job!
He didn't have any major problem with it, so long as they could maintain their lives. He even seemed ok with Boomer, and he kept pointing out that they're doing no harm to anyone.
Kinda...he was in a way saying 'what's the big fuss? They're not hurting anyone.'
But yes, Culpeo did great.
When he looked inside the head, he commented 'oh, it's like a helmet'
He was referring back to that with the SECOND helmet comment. It was not meant as an insult to the design of the head, but a throwback to what he'd previously said.
The audience laughing was more about the way he said it, not about the head's quality.
Also, if you pay attention to his face just before she mentions he can try it on...you can tell he was tempted.
I'd say the fandom is awful at this, at least my local fandom... The fandom as a whole, the whole "acceptance" thing is usually taken waaaay too far and overrides the whole policing thing. >_>
I just found it odd, seeing as you said that and shortly after someone that hurt me personally that way was on the show hahahahah.
do need a job. Very Mature of you~! <3
my only complaint was with a small comment you made, it was a blip, but its a HUUUUUGE
problem within the fandom, and my number one ISSUE with the fandom:
"... we hear rumors about those people [ to avoid ], and in the community rumors spread quickly... "
This is a negative thing impacting the community. Rumors are being accepted as fact and are
impacting reputations of furs we've never met and likely never will meet. So while i don't advise
anyone putting themselves in a compromised situation, there is no need to avoid, talk about some
one behind their back or greet them with hostility based on something you've heard.
Take for example (the best one i can think of) Zaush, we've heard some pretty bad things about
this guy, but has any of us ever met him ? no... but i'm certain when people encounter him they
act out. There are furries on the internet who act out of fear, so far as to move to an entirely
different website. so yes while rumors can potentially Warn you from danger you must consider the
source and 98% of the time its anonymous or from someone who isn't a 1st hand or 2nd hand observer,
but merely passing on something they heard from someone whom, they've by now forgotten their
identity.
but the rumor whether basis in fact or not, remains a repugnant stain... while the anonymous collective spreading it
are not held accountable, and continue to huddle in fear.
We should not Judge people we don't know, instead we should heed the advice of your friend as posted
just 14 posts above mine here (well pending trees of RE: posts, no doubt)
Bram-Diabolus: " do you honestly want to be friends with someone that believes what other people claim about them instead of getting to know them? You don't need judgmental assholes like that in your life anyway "
lets not be the Judgmental assholes, lets squash the rumors and hold the people that spread
them accountable.
Online people also get reputations for being jerks and you can check it out and verify. There are some people who always seem to be surrounded in drama, always saying they're the victims of horrible rumors and lies, but if you go to their page and read their journals and comments, you can see how they act for yourself. When you type anything you feel like online and act like a jerk, you're gonna get called on it, and you're going to get a bad reputation. Yes you CAN say anything you want online, but that doesn't mean there aren't consequences.
And that's why I listen to rumors in the fandom - with a grain of salt, and doing my own fact-checking. But usually, they happen for a good reason.
the chances of that happening are 100%... because that EXACT same hypothetical scenario happened to me. i've always been on a personal quest to make furry more tolerant and accepting, but now that i've
been falsely accused of 'attempted date rape' on/by someone i've never met, they have taken a
pro-active stance in "warning" others against me to the point to where i am cussed out by complete
strangers, just based on 'oh its that guy i heard about ' (this is true read my journals)
So i completely disagree with you. Rumors even " good intended ones " are Bad.
look at Zaush and his reputation. Based on what happened to him, he can never live that
down, and it makes him look like a total sleaze based on HIS personal info being dropped.
its not fair to him that so many people will have this prejudiced opinion of him before even
meeting him, if they ever get to meet him really.
However, if you read my original post i did state to not put yourself in a compromised situation,
caution and common sense will protect you from far more danger than rumors ever could, if we
listened to rumors no one would ever be alone around sibe because 'he raped someone' which
this is completely untrue, he's actually guilty of copyright infringement. so don't be alone with him
he'll copy your art and repost it. lol
i'm not saying you're wrong, i'm just saying i disagree with you, and unfortunately what you're
saying is the same bullshit being echoed throughout the fandom, false logic and a false sense of
safety (ie living in fear) should not be goals of the fandom.
You are very welcome I'm still focus on school on the weekdays and I do free time including furmeets and furry conventions on the weekends. You look nice on the show and stepping up to defend your lifestyle.Anyway, Job Crops will also help you get your GED!
GED counts as high school credits. i was able to get my diploma this way. c:
Thank you for doing so well.
Get your GED at the least (It's so easy. If it's anything like the NY test it's all reading compehension, and then basic math skills). You don't need a phenominal job to support yourself, even if the job is basically just "saving money" rather than money you can live off of, it'd be a start. I work at a fast food place right now and basically my whole check supplements my boyfriend supporting us. So honestly if you have a friend who wants you to move in, as long as it's not a PERMANANT thing that they pay most of it, I don't see anything wrong with them helping to support you so long as you give them as much as possible. Not all situations are the same so I kinda disagree Dr. Phil for shooting you down there. In this economy, even WITH education it's sometimes not possible to find a job right away that can support you, that's why most people have roommates at our age.
I hope the show helped your mom relax since Dr. Phil wasn't against furries at all.
Furry isn't a job for some, but it is for others - however I can understand where Dr. Phil is coming from when he says that art isn't a job. Most artists I know have to balance commissions and a job - they can't work on commissions 40 hours a week.
You were probably the sanest one on the show to be honest. I can't see myself breastfeeding rabbits or eating dog food XD
But I can see myself wearing a fursuit, soon.
I have an idea, how about if Dr. Phil is so damn on for you getting a college education, he drops you the thousands and thousands of dollars it'll cost to get it in america?
Then said the army wouldn't even accept her without a college education.
Which is hilarious considering that is a bold-aced lie. The army recruits fucking high school students LOL
And awe thanks ;; I just wish I were more productive lately aha
I do agree somewhat on what he said to you though. You need to be more self-sufficient, as in at LEAST getting your own stable income and eventually moving into your own place to live.
A GED/high school degree is very important, please get one.
I'd recommend college, too. If your income is low, often community colleges will pay your ENTIRE college expense through grants. 4 year colleges will only pay for part of your tuition, you will have to pay out of pocket or through loans.
Try to get some sort of job, even part time. Yea, I know it's hard, but never give up.
I disagree with baldy on one thing, art can be a job. HOWEVER, it's hard to make a living on making art, or making fursuits, or stuff like that. I have known furries who have done it, but they work VERY hard, and they're also well known. And many of them make only a little over minimum wage, and often live with significant others who help pay for things. It's not easy making a living off of art and it takes a lot of hard work and being popfur. It can be done though. You could also do art professionally as a graphic designer or something similar and do fur art as a supplemental income. Or you could work one job part time and art part time, as long as you're making enough money.
If you do want to make a living off of art, at least take some community college classes, those should help a lot.
And dear, you're not oldfur. You're not greymuzzle. I'm in my mid 30s, have been in the fandom since 2001 when you were a babe, and I don't even consider myself graymuzzle (oldfur, maybe).
i'm not saying this to argue or fight with you. I just know from personal experience. I have watched friends get tied down with student loans and it is complete bullshit. I have been able to get my college degree without even touching loans. I only focused on using financial aid. That helped out the most.
once again, loans are bullshit. loans are such bullshit. Don't even dare to try to think about even touching them with a ten-foot cattle prod.
Public loans are better than private but the government is still profiting off your loans, it's just the private banks are profiting more.
And you're not old. I am 45 and have been in this fandom since 1992 and i am not about to leave it now. And hell i still go to cons and I am leaving tommorow for BLFC. wish me luck.
I am also really impressed that despite the pressure you receive from your mother, you're still a really strong icon in the fandom. I love your suit too, by the way :D Congrats to you, you sounded great on the show and are surely working towards making a living for yourself while staying in the community ^^
Good luck on your artwork - art IS a job, if you decide to go ahead with college and a GED you can see how many people are suppourting you and know you can do it :)
You have a long life ahead of you, be happy, and don't stop doing what you love.
Ohhh and btw you're becoming quite famous too within the fandom in Mexico and latin america since links to the episode are being posted all around XD I was shown very briefly in an episode of taboo latin america, when they came over to interview local furs haha
When you work though, you cant really tell people you're a furry. Otherwise they think your incapable.
When trying to get hired they key thing is talking to the manager. Dress nice when talking to them not just for the interview and go to the store hours between monday and thursday 1-4 those are the down times. Going on weekends is no bueno. Always ask a supervisor and manager is hiring. A employee will always tell you no, since their hours get cut
Most of these jobs tho they NEED your GED/HS. You can LIE and say you have it, since they NEVER check. But they ASK.
The better you get at customer service you can move up. You don't really need a college degree if you can keep your cool, very good at managing and organizing, most of all customer service. And you have to wear make up for job interviews...but once you get the jerb at a movies, hostessing and what not you really don't have to, but you do get more respect and people treat you better as well as you move up easier in the company. You were very pretty on the show. The out fit you wore and the make up. You are pretty even without it, but I was like wow she cleans up nice with make up.
You're still young and being independent is a bitch and its hard, but baby steps helps. Getting a GED shouldn't be that hard.
Add another generic comment about get your GED and get a job and you will have won life or something(As someone who does art for a living and has done art for a living for 10 years, trust me, it's not something you want long term).
Beautiful work :O *twirl*
LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO WITH YOUR AWESOMENESS. **dont stahp** >w>
I think you did an excellent job on the show. You seemed to stay calm despite him throwing things at you, and overall the vibe wasn't too bad. You didn't need to fear having to leave the fandom, things could of gone much worse but it went good. =] I do wish you much luck on wherever this experience takes you.
If I wanted to make us look bad, I would have opened some dog food whilst wearing my fedora and trench coat and talked about all the zoo porn.
LOL no I kid. :P
jk c: MY PRICES. My digi head/bust shots are $10 (shading is +$2) and my digi fullbody badges are $15 (+$2 shading)

-rolls away-
I'm just glad that they didn't chop up your voice or the interviews to sensationalize everything like the media enjoys doing, especially with what happened on the TLC show "my strange addiction". I feel you really dodged a bullet on this one.
Would I recommend other furs trust in these shows and be on them? Hell no.
But the outcome was not nearly as bad as I braced myself for. Good on you for being calm and collected.
While frankly, it is not that easy to just move out and get your life in order, he has a point, and there are brownie points for trying (GED, ect).
I think you did very well and did not embarrass yourself. good job. Now go out and get crackin' on some school.
About your mom: that really sucks, i am sorry to see she is so uncomfortable about everything, but some people are just like that x.x
So, hope you had a little wake up call about school, but otherwise had a positive experience. It takes a LOT of cohones to go on tv and be that exposed and vulnerable to millions of people's opinions.
I think Dr. Phil was really reasonable except for one point: It may not be practical to take care of, financially, everything, but art IS work, pure and simple, and i really resent people who do not think it is.
