Autobuy rant

I was going to keep quiet about this but I just can't keep it in any longer. I am so pissed off. Why am I so mad, you ask? Every time I'm ahead in an auction I'm doing well, I'm excited because I'm placing competitive bids, trying to get a decent deal in and then all of a sudden BOOM someone autobuys it out from under me. This has happened to me both very early and very late in the auction process and I've brushed it off until now but this last one really got my goat. In a multiple slot auction I wanted one of the slots, the bidding was at 35 dollars and the autobuy is 100 per character. I was currently in the lead and planning to ride it out until the bitter end when some guy comes in and autobuys BOTH DAMN YCH SLOTS. I know that I shouldn't get so upset about it but BOTH slots? Really? I mean I'm happy for the artist, I really am but I can't help but feel that I keep getting my hopes up for nothing and it's happening time and time again. Auctions should be auctions and sales should be sales. If you are going to put an autobuy on something it would be better to list it up and just sell the damn work rather than have people walk away from your page in bitter disappointment of getting a rug pulled out from beneath them.

I know what you're talking about. I've been on both sides of that fence before. I've been sniped at the last minute and also as an artist I've placed the AB option on works before too and seen people who i know were really keen on getting a particular piece of art get outbid. The key thing here is that it's nothing personal and besides that if the artist doesn't place a limit on the amount you can spend on a pic then it has a tendancy to get into absurd amounts that would count most people out anyway

Oh, I know it's nothing personal on the part of the artist. I'm always happy when an artist gets paid well for their craft. I just hate getting the proverbial shaft when I take the time to actually monitor a piece I particularly enjoy. Besides, it's nice to give people that don't necessarily make a lot of money at least a chance to get a good quality piece of art once in a while. To that extent I like contests much better as it doesn't feel so bad if I lose because I know there's only a slight chance of winning anyways and it's much less of a slap to my ego because everyone was basically playing on the same terms. It's not really a matter of the richest guy wins.
