Furry Themes, Furry Research, MFM, and Other Musings
11 years ago
Hey, guys. Been a while once again! Since I last was very active on FA, I've been crazy busy with a new town, college, job (I'm a Barista at Starbucks now), and new apartment. But I haven't fallen off the planet, promise!
Anyway, something I started thinking about something involving the fandom the other day; themes. I really like people that have themed 'sonas. Whether it be medieval, steampunk, civil war, mad science, western, or something to do with a specific franchise, I think themed fursonas are really cool. There have been times when I've thought of giving Fleet some more personality by creating a theme. However, I have a hard time thinking of anything I would commit to so much that I would want it to represent me with my character. Since my character is in many ways a parallel of myself, it would have to be something that means a lot to me.
What do you think about themed furries? What does it take to fully dedicate to a theme? Is it silly? Is it a way to make a 'sona even more unique? Is it far-fetched to think of your fursona as anchored to a specific setting? Do you have a theme for your 'sona? Is it plausible to have a multi-themed fursona, or put them in a setting without making it a part of their personality? I would love to hear some thoughts.
There's something else I would love to hear from you guys about. I am currently taking a college course on Cultural Anthropology, and for our final project we have to write an ethnography on a cultural group. Of course, my first thought was of the furry fandom. It's relatively under-researched, and as a member of the community I have a lot of insider access. However, I need to be able to directly spend some time with the community, being able to take notes and talk to specific people. I couldn't simply draw on my past experiences. Here's where you come in! I would love to talk to you, yes, YOU, about the fandom. And not necessarily about the fandom in exclusivity. Just talk, fur-to-fur! I want to be able to get feedback from all facets of the fandom, from the tame to the fetishists. If you're interested in being a part of this (and helping me out) do send me a note! We can work out better times/places to chat. I will be sure to change your names, so you don't have to be afraid to share your deepest, darkest secrets. >:3
Lastly, MFM! I've mentioned this briefly in a previous journal, but I'm seriously planning on going this August. I'm really nervous, and really excited. Anyone who is going, I would love to meet 'cha.

Themed fursona's...? I think their pretty cool. I don't think Zech has a theme though. Well maybe he does. 'Be careful what you wish for' sparked the idea for his backstory. P=
