In 1980, the Hamilton Mariners became an FBA team. As there was another Canadian Team, it was thus a theoretical possibility that they'd meat in the post-season. But it was only a theoretical possibilty: the other team was in the West--which meant it could only happen in the finals--and the other team was none other than the Rocky Mountain Royals, which famously didn't even make the playoffs for 32 years (only to get knocked out in the first round).
But with the Edmonton Totems and the Winnepeg Voyageurs both in the Western Conference, and the Voyageurs coming heartbreakingly close to making it to the conference finals (where the Bikers would face the totems), it is now a proven possibility that the two could meet each other. All that needs to happen now is for it to become a reality.
Sadly, an all-Canadian finals remain out of reach.
