Naturally attracted to pretty things and so unthinkingly, I would pick snatch it up before anyone else sees it. Like the government.

as you aproche the shiny bauble a sense of fear and anxiety washes over you so strong it drops you to your knees. as you reach out for it tht crushing fear and anxiety vanages and the gem burst a bright glow out of it.

do you still grab it?

Hmm.....Well, I've gotten this far for it, there's no way I'm gonna turn back; despite my better judgement. It's a gold necklace after all!

you grab the chain and a wave of heat flows through you filling you with rage and fear. "mmmmm" echos through your mind in your own voice but not from you. your hand is now tightly clasped to the chain. "a tasty snack after so long." another wave of hate and anxiety rush through you. "not enough. put me on and lets... have fun"

This is not something you see everyday, a perfectly formed jewel in the middle of a crater! Thusly I would photograph it with my cellphone (then prop the phone up and switch it to video mode to record whatever happens for posterity) before putting on gloves and trying to lift the jewel out of the crater with a stick or pair of tongs.

The goal of course would be to place the jewel in whatever bag I have on hand (probably my purse, maybe my handbag if I have it) and then carefully transport the object somewhere else for careful examination, away from any large bodies of population.

Of course manipulating an object like this with a stick held at arms length isn't easy, so if anything unexpected were to happen I'd be liable to fumble it, possibly dropping it on myself or catching it out of reflex.

as you approach your fear grows to crippling levels. the closer you get the brighter it glows. using a long stick you snare the chain and lift it out of the still steaming crater. fear and anxiety still grip you making it hard to hold your phone and the stick at the same time. the video comes out like the blair witch project. many close ups of the inside of your nose.

depositing it in the bag doesnt stop the waves of anxiety but as you grab the handles it all fades in to a momentary calm. a voice echos through your head. its yours but not from you "i feel you. cautious but still curious. touch me"

Oh good. I have the terrifying crater jewel in my bag and I'm now talking to myself. Well.. I don't want to put the bag down because now that I'm holding it the crippling fear is gone. Letting go of the bag would bring that back. ...right? Also not sure I want to touch the spooky jewel. ...yet. I will ask myself out loud, "what happens if I touch you?" Because that's not crazy at all. ...right?

In the meanwhile I stick with the plan and proceed at haste towards a secluded area away from populated places before examining what's in the bag any further.

"ooo so inquisitive but still cautious. what do you want to happen? your enemies blood flowing before you. those that have wronged you put through suffering only ending with their unavoidable demise? or uhh... fluffy.. kittys and.. unicorns?" a twinge of fear runs through you "touch me and find out for yourself. heh" your location seems to have no effect on the voice in your head only your proximity to the gem.

"...while I do enjoy fluffy kittens and unicorns I suddenly have the feeling I should bury this thing in a hole." You know what they say about curiosity though. Impishly I open my bag and poke the gem with a fingertip just to see what happens. "This better not be one of those swallow your soul thingies."

The gem radiates heat and anger through your body in the brief moment you touch it. "Oh. Such a tease you are. I'm not interested in your soul. That kinda thing just gets in the way. He he he." The gem glows brighter and the voice more clear. "Really touch me. Put me on. I promise there will be fluffy vermin.. err kitties and unicorns."

Okay touching it felt pretty cool. "They better be the fluffiest...." mutters myself to myself. I open my bag and pick up the necklace. "If this is a trick, I'm shoving this necklace into the first hole I find." It's totally a trick. Sigh. Well... it's put on the one in a million magical artifact... or toss it and go back to boring regular life. This should be interesting at least! "...Oh hell, I didn't want to go into work tomorrow anyway."

Raising the necklace above my head with both hands, I look left and right before whispering hastily, "...If this matters at all, I like dark skinned elves with white hair, and pointy ears." Darn my fascination with Drow. I knew it would be my undoing! Feeling embarrassed I mutter to myself about how I'm bargaining with a magical necklace and I've clearly gone off the deep end. "Well, let's get this over with. Arright, necklace! Let's see what you've got!" I lower my arms, dropping the necklace into place around my neck.

When you grab the chain the wave of heat and anger returns. Your hands not wanting to let go of it. "Soon." When you place it around your neck you feel a rush of heat through you. The voice returns "I thought you'd never do it." Though now its coming from your mouth. "You're not much of a meal but at least I can move around now" you feel strange and incomplete your body seems to be controlled by the gem. Your voice not the voice in your head. Looking down at your hands "drow hu?" You begin to change in to a dark elf "by the way. I lied about the fluffy things." You start walking off in search of prey.
