Apparently it seems to be a website where people can ask for fund raises for their projects and art so that they will have the monetary resources to complete them.

This, you can get personal art projects or art sets funded by people who want to see them. It's a cool idea but I'm nowhere near popular enough to get my art cards funded.

Yeah - popularity is always important in such cases. :/

Post Scriptum: It seems that funds are recurring and not one-time-payments. It does have quite an interesting funding system I've never seen before on such websites.

Reminds me of how artists where supported in the past by their local noble or something along those lines.

Hm... I seen people writing not only about personal projects - more like if someone would fund them, they'll make an extra artwork monthly and either exclusively there or show them bigger size... Or such ideas as well.

And to answer your above inquiry, it does seem that the listed amount of money you specify will be taken from your credit card at the start ( or end ) of every month, it seems.

Many people are modeling it like a subscription. For example, you pay $5 a month for access to art or prizes and treats that the artist makes available only to Patreon members, and the artist gets a flow of income for things. Some of the Patreons I've seen had the money used to pay for the artist's personal projects so they wouldn't starve if they were working on such things, if it's their only source of income.

Others have silly goals like ", I will draw a cat playing an electric guitar while riding on a dragon through a volcanic thunderstorm with flying sharks giving chase". I guess it's up to the artist to be creative and find an angle!

I keep thinking about using it, but I don't know if my following is strong enough to actually go for it.

I think everyone has really explained what it is already. I think it's pretty neat.

I think it's gotten popular because it's like having a pay-site that some artists have, without having to try to get accepted by them and also not having to worry about sharing the profits with others, whether because they'd not make enough or they just don't like some of the other artists.
