Wild West Taxidermy Studio
well, I have been working at Wild West Taxidermy Studio for a week now.
a taxidermist
commercial tanner
and rugger
things are going pretty good, boss is taking a week to head back down to our teachers habitat course.
he comes back, and we get 10 deer ready for the Texas big game banquet? or something I wanna say.
first day, of testing me out, turned and split 3 bobcats, 3 mule deers. nothing to it.
got them fleshed with his new hide master he had finished making, he was pretty impressed I have to say when i turned them quicker and more thorough then he was.
so told me, "ill see you on Monday and get you started on some things, if you want to, bring a raw animal and ill tan it for free"
I bought a red marble fox i had missed in my freezer when I was doing inventory.
and we was working on tuesday just cleaning some things up, cause he forgot to pull out the bobcat i was to work on and the elk cape he was going to mount. and we rehydrated 4 large elk back hides, 1 half back elk, 1 half back red stag, 2 deer half back halves, got them tumbled and stretched.
so Wednesday started working on prepping the bobcat ( first bobcat I've ever done )skin and form getting that worked up, doing the leaping pose which i never have liked but eh, customers choice and one of the larger ones it would fit the bobcat
same with Thursday, then some tweeking on Friday with preparing the shop of cleaning and organizing some for his absence.
but found out that 2 more guys will be coming on first in may, one 18, one 22 before they got to the taxidermy school in June and September.
with me just kinda calling him and showing him, saying if only he had 5 of me thats all wed need.
boss wants me to show them how to skin properly, turn and have them shadow him on a deer shoulder, and me a lifesize, he plans on having me do a grey fox for them to which which is pretty cool.
though he said yes on shadowing but hes mainly hiring them for deer and tannery since he was running it all by himself with his wife helping a little bit.
in payment hes tanning all my skins from now on, which is AWESOME dont have to shell out shipping costs and tannery expense.
cause thats like atleast 2-3k worth of stuff of like 20-30 foxes
2 dogs
3 horse capes
1 horse lifesize
2 bobcats
4-6 coyotes
1 coon
2 otter
1 squirrel
somethin or somethin
which is also good, got my recent order in from WLG and wasnt to pleased with the quality of work, fixable, just holes that werent there before like 8 inch gashes or 4 large 50 cent pieces behind the head.
so now i will be able to watch whats going on with them which really eases my mind.
so now I will be also get refreshed on deer, also with our climate being different up here than down south the tweaking on how on drying them up here.
doing elk, boars, african, bears, goats, exotics
tannery stuff of tumbling, tanning, shaving, fleshing with the hide master, stretching hides.
rugging
skull metal cladding( where he uses real metals on the skull to add finish work)
pretty much anything the boss wants me to learn.
so working on a show piece for the show room of the red marble i got from Kan as a show piece for now since he really loves that color until i can get one of the whitemarks done up, then that should be a site to see
~
So with that excitement, i pretty much go to class at 9AM to 11:30, check on the dog, head over there which is a 30-35 min drive from me monday-friday.
soon ill be able to bring Gaston with me when he builds the fence.
but cant wait til school is out cause then I can just wake up and head over there and stay til like 7-8 each day mounting things and having a cold one.
but school will officially be done on my birthday which is a great gift
school is done, and Godzilla will be on birthday!
dad is talking about going up to Canada first, riding a train to Alaska and then flying home sometime in summer.
also have to save up for Anthrocon in July @.@
