That's why I don't buy any adopts anymore, unless I REALLY like the design. Though I'm still guilty of not using half the ones I do have.

-raises hand guiltily - sometimes i do that but i just let the character sit until i can come up with a commission idea, for example Taiga. I havent gotten her drawn but like 3x and its only cause im stumped on pic ideas . ive never had a curvy char so im a little unsure how to portray her

I think you've gotten 2-3 Commissions of her so far, nothing big and serious quiet yet, but shes at least been used. And you even at least have the characters posted...IDK for me it shows you at least own the character and maybe it will get used.

How about commission an artist for a similar design with a couple tweaks to make it your own? You could probably get it for less than what some of these adoptables are going for.

Ive....thought about that numerous times, but Im always afraid people will see through that and call it character theft/ripping off a design. I kind of made a few other characters in the past doing that, but I guess I feel like Im asking short cuts....plus I got in trouble for using a fucking mask for a commission idea, even though the mask has been used THOUSANDS of times before, its the fact I used someone elses picture as a reference that got me in trouble...

People are really quick to call theft. In the real world outside of furry, artists are constantly inspired by other artists' work and often mimic or copy styles and generally everyone gets along. It's always sad to me when someone gets hammered unfairly over things like using the same pose as someone else. If it's not traced, there's nothing wrong. I'm curious as to what happened in your situation.

And there is nothing wrong with Inspiration Inspired creations. Video games, stories, mangas, Millions of art concepts, youtube videos, etc etc is somewhat inspired from someone else. There is always SOMETHING from somewhere or from someone else in everything. But the trick is to not make it too obvious. To obvious and its considered a complete ripoff.

Poses, not come on, thats something nobody can really cant get iin trouble for. Just about every pose has be used, and will always be reused; tweaked to make it look new or different. But then people get really pissed if it looks somehow EXACTLY like what someone else did.

I put my heart and soul into Aquin, and the story behind him. Essentially, he is my spirit/soul. I wanted 100% originality especially in his weapon. As a result, i feel like i can't really use any other character or adopt anything. I am who i am and that is that.

Even to this day, he is still incomplete and i am learning stuff about him through dreams. Been a while since i have commissioned anything.

I recently bought a few and I have plans for all of them. So far I have commissioned pieces of 2 out of 3 so thats not bad. The third character is begging for a redesign, I just liked the concept. So that's why I haven't done anything with it yet. I have backed away from many adoptables because even if I like their design I have to ask myself if I'll ever actually use it. Not to mention if I really want a new character I can always design one for myself XD

When it comes to adoptable auctions I like to have a fully rendered one of a kind image for them so they feel more personal rather than your cookie cutter recolours. They can be nice but designing the character is part of the fun!

And nah, Unless its dirt cheap AND I love it/can use it, I ont buy Cookie cutters

I definitely have a soft spot for cookie cutters but I don't like the idea of filling my gallery with them. I tend to adopt the cookie cutter ones because strangers have a different way of thinking and desigining so I get more of an inspiration from the colours however I always redesign the character in some way. I guess I'm all backwards haha I don't like to create what I like to buy. I just enjoy inventing characters but then I never do anything with them so I sell them haha

.3. I know that feeling....then again I'm just as guilty since I normally use what I could have gotten a commission for a character to get another design that caught my eyes.

I have a backlog to write character back stories of plus correcting the ones I have up isn't a lot of fun especially when you have writers block. x-x
