Something Old

Welcome to the Circle. Feel free to discuss and provide insight. Please remember to keep an open mind and do not judge your fellow members.
Hello guys,
We've been checking on the previous journal and have gotten your message loud and clear.
This was not the kind of journal you wanted from us.
That is why, from now on, we will be switching back to our old formula of presenting a topic and inviting you to discuss it with us.
This time, we'll be talking about Tarot.
Over the years, many people have tried it, many have had it not work and many have had great success.
But what is it that makes these cards so popular?
- Is it that they're cards with vague explanations that would allow them to fit into any narrative the reader comes up with?
- Is it that they provide a way for the user to harness the potential of the law of attraction?
- Or do they truly choose a vessel through which to convey messages from the forces that guide us?
All these questions and more come to mind when trying to find out what is going on.
We're interested in finding out what your answers to these questions are and what your personal experiences have been with tarot.
Have you ever used them? Ever had them used for you? Or do you not believe they work and find it all mumbo jumbo?
We want to know.

Unless you count placebo/nocebo effects.
Personally, I've had a few tarot readings done before. They're great fun, but didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know or suggest any kind of paranormal phenomena going on. I'd rather use the tarot cards for their original purpose- card games! Like tarocchini. :D
James Randi had a tarot reader on for an official test once- as I recall, she wasn't very successful.
For me, I started with Lenormand cards, and when I managed to deal with and master them, I was given a Tarot de Marseille, and never manage to do anything with it ha ha it lost some cards, and even so it was very heavy to deal with, sometimes just wouldn't connect to them, wrong message, or so vague I wasn't sure what to say. But hey, I gave it a try? I understand the meanings of the cards and all. So either it wasn't my time right now for these, either my Lenormand cards are made for me and that I need to deal with them only? Who knows ha ha I'm still young and so much things to discover!
I see the other answer over there about the placebo effect and all, I would say that when you receive a reading, it does stay in your mind, and sometimes. if its a bad thing, it just stay a long time. So could this do some effect? Maybe. On the side of the person that draw, it also depends how they actually draw the cards. I was talking with my dad's GF and the owner of a small shop of new age stuff and they both said that they everything to draw the positive cards only and that they can't think about negative stuff. I answered them that for myself, I'm just doing it for everything, an overall, since life is not always bad nor happy so!
And depending on where you draw your cards it can affect things. Via internet, little information, no photo, etc etc can just don't help the thing, like IRL you could just not connect to the person too. There's a bunch of factor that could make things work, or not!
The Tarot are jam-packed with symbology, which is the useful part there.
Think of it like dream interpretation - your dreams serve up lots of information about what's going on in your life and your own intutions, concerns, insights and motivations, which can be read or interpreted by someone who knows the code they're expressed in.
Whether or not the spreads that are read are random chance or not aside, the symbology in the cards are a useful tool in reflecting on a question at hand.
