I don't believe art is worth that much....

haha, yeah. they're neat and all, and their designs are gorgeous, but for pre-made designs/'base' art, it's a little over the top. I mean more power to them since they've got the fanbase that'll pay that much *every artist that does commission work DREAMS of something like that, lol* but yeah, way too rich for my blood.

Whoever pays that much obviously has too much money....donate to some starvin kids or donate to a dog shelter! jeez!

So a person's skills, built up over years and years and years of practicing and learning, possible schooling, costs of supplies, their time isn't worth more than a liveable wage? That everyone's style and name is a dime a dozen? The fandom and people drifting around the net for cheap art are spoiled. Art is a luxury. Art takes practice, we don't just barf it out instantly, and we're ever improving and trying to build on our skills and techniques, upgrading our supplies.

Granted, the costs quoted feels high for 'cookie cutter' adoptables, but you're still buying that's person individual sense of color theory and style, and true, not everyone who does those type of adoptable are really keen on that. But again, people who feel it is worth it will pay what it's worth. Doesn't mean you have to or should, because art and the artists style is an individual taste thing. However, to say that art isn't worth that much and then you drift out into the 'real art world'...you'd be laughed at with your thoughts towards the cost of art. When custom painted feathers cost $350 at start from a Western artist, and believe me, if I had the money, I would pay that. If I ever had had the money for this painting: https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/17995/lot/312/ I would have paid that. But as an artist, I know what it takes to produce. As I've even had a year of special schooling, I have understanding and insight many like yourself do not.

And art...is all around you. Would you walk into a custom furniture maker and expect Walmart press board prices? Cause guess what? Furniture making is an art. Building houses is an art. Packaging to lamps to food.....so much around you IS art in it's own way.

Tell me why that a mechanic who goes to school to learn their trade is worth more than minimum wage, but yet an artist who does the same is not.

Artists and their work deserve more respect. It's understandable to have personal limits to what you yourself would pay, but by putting artists down in that way, saying nothing they do could ever be worth even that low price (and yes, $100-500 IS relatively low depending on size and demand and many other factors), is rude, cruel, ignorant, and makes artists not want to work with you.

It's nice to know my scratchboard work isn't worth it's price, no matter how much detail I and work I put in to it, or time it takes. Not even if I took 1st in it's category with one.

1) This is furry art. it's never going to be in gallery's like that painting.
2) When someone just buys an adopt you don't price is so damn high that only people with 5 jobs can afford it. that's just not giving a fuck about your watchers at all.

1.Furry art could step over into galleries if the right steps are taken (and also, there was a gallery who hosted works of furry artists during AC one year), and in fact there has been artists in the past who have done anthropomorphic work. 40 years ago Wildlife artwork wasn't considered real art. You don't know what could happen, and you don't seem well versed in art history.
2.It's called supply and demand, and plus a name. And plus an individual's color theory.
3.Again, if people have the money and they themselves feel it's worth it, but your attitude has already put me on the side of thinking I don't think I'll ever want to take commissions from you. You need to have respect for artists regardless (you're showing you don't) and you should be happy that yes, they can do something like that and make a living wage, I do, and they are 'competition' to me, but whatever.

If you'd rather spend money on other things, then so be it. But there's still people in our fandom who have gone to school, have massive skills, have their own style, have a name who are worth it to those who can afford it. Would you rather see an artist ABUSE themselves with 40 $20 commissions or take 3 at $260 just because *you* can't afford it. And keep in mind, art isn't always easy on the body either.

I was ignoring it at first because this ia a debate topic I've seen over and over but you pushed it into the land of horribly rude and hurtful woth direct attacka at your 'debate partner'. Honestly larja hota the n ail on the head. It doeant matter if its a traditional style painting or a digital piece of work the same ammoumt of effort and tallent goes into both. Both types of pieces serve the same purpose as well reguardless of the content and should be respected. This kournal was meant specifically fot the price of aingle cookiecutter adoptablea that take maybe one hour of work tops to finish but a painted digital piece could easily cost a few hundred dollars just based on artist skill alone , not to mention the hours of work to finish it and any alterations made after to meet the commisioners specifications. Art is a job like any other and for a lot of people on this site its their only job so yes they take it seriously and will charge professional prices for professional work.

Just because everyone can't afford it doesn't make it overpriced. The xboxone and ps4 are horribly expenaive nut people that get enjoyment from gaming will find ways to afford them. People that value art above other recreational things will put THEIR money towards what makes THEM happy too, even if it's a $300 adoptable.

If an artist has the skill and commiasioner base where they can and sometimea need to charge higher pricea, go them for being awesome and respectable enough to become that good. Don't degrade someone elses profession ju st because you done agree with what they charge and hide behind 'im on the internet you cant do anything about it neener neener' because it makes you sound lile a horribly immature person with zero respect for others and its not how you should ever act towards someone face to face.

They're not worth it. I mean seriously. To me they're not even that unique. The only closed species I have is a kitkin and she only cost me 120 because I got her custom and shaded.

I personally can't buy adoptables. Not because I don't have the money to, but because I would feel personally insulted by my action. The day that I have to rely on somebody else's creativity to create something unique and special for me is a sad day indeed. Plus, I find it far more enjoyable to make my own characters from scratch.

That really is a bit excessive, but I'm also having trouble wrapping my mind around the entire concept. :V

Not worth it. To those who buy up 'adoptables' for that cost...well, what we don't probably see is they go bankrupt or foreclosed on later, because they spent it on something not worth that much.

Well I find you hiding my opinion of how they look rude.

This wasn't meant to be a conversation to dis or insult an artists work, but that they are something that's way out of a normal price range for them. Even if you may not like them there's no need to insult an artists efforts to make interesting designs so bluntly and I didn't want your comment to escalate that strain of discussion.

Either way this is my journal and I found your simple comment to be insulting both to the artist and myself since I do like them and their designs.

Honestly, I don't believe in 90% of the "closed species" adoptable out there. People throw that word around like it has some sort of legal bearing, but the reality is that the only thing you can really do if someone steals your species us send them hate mail. Not to mention, most of them aren't even that creative... :/
