Wrongfully Terminated from my job today...(Slight rant)
Today has been a very awesome day so far for me and it isn't even noon. So here is the short of how things happened.
(Slight rantingness ahead and a bit of a long sad story)
I've been working for a local fast food place here in Utah called Arctic Circle for close to 4 years. It is very close to my house so it was very convenient to work at it because there was never much of a commute. About 2 years ago we got a new manager from another store since our old manager quit on us. The new manager that came in is the most cheap and frugal person I have ever met in my entire life. She would dilute down our bleach in the gallon jug to save money so our equipment, tables and everything else would never be properly sanitized and that is just a small taste of how cheap she really is.
Due to the Affordable Care Act that was put in place. No one at my store could work over 29 hours a week or they would be considered a full time employee and have to pay us Health Insurance. We do our end of pay periods once a week on Sundays and I was closing yesterday. I know that I had 30.59 hours last week because we have been very short staffed for a while now. I knew I was going over my hour limit so I called my boss to tell her that I didn't think that I could work Sunday because of that and she told me "Don't worry about it, I found a way for you to work so please come in." That was a red flag for me so I knew something was up.
When I got into the store she wasn't there she had left 2 hours prior to me arriving and another Shift Runner was there. After he left for the day as I was his replacement. I then went into our Excel program that had our books on it and I saw that she had edited my last weeks hours down to 27.59 hours, so she removed 3 hours I had worked. For this last week (May 12th - May 18th) I ended up working 32.73 hours. My boss had gotten in trouble for having another employee work over the allotted 58 hours a week before and our corporate office said if it happened again she would be fired. So I fixed my hours on our payroll and sent them into our office before leaving last night. Taking pictures of the screen and the hard copy papers that had my hours for the week on them as well to cover myself. Prior I had called her boss to tell him what was happening and he instructed me to go in tomorrow and talk to her about it. If she would not change my hours back to what they were supposed to be then to call him.
I go into the store this morning to confront her about this and I calmly ask her why she edited my hours and took 3 hours from my last weeks hours. She claimed she was "checking something" with my hours and forgot to change it back and was very offended that I would accuse her of stealing from me and cheating me out of hours I worked. She asked why I never called her to ask and I said that I knew she wouldn't give me a straight answer about it and I was upset because I thought she had done that to me because she seems like the person to do that to cover her own ass. She then told me I was fired for what I had done so I left... Apparently her boss had already called her before I had gotten up to go into the store to talk to her myself so she had her defenses up already and was waiting for me. So now I'm expecting her to pin a whole bunch of other stuff on me that she had done to shift blame from herself...
(End of ranty story)
It is ok though in the end of things, I was unsatisfied with my job and I'm just going to turn this bad situation on its head and look for a better job where I am more appreciated for the work I do that will pay me a better wage, give benefits/insurance and bonuses hopefully. If anyone has any comments or questions feel free to drop me a PM or message me on other forms and I'll be happy to give more details about what happened. I appreciate any words of advice in this time in my life of how I should move forward possibly or any actions you think I should take. Thank you very much for reading.
