I am one of those people that actually does not hate X-2 funnilly enough, I loved it, still do lol

i like 12, but i don't like how the summons are so weak besides their ultimate moves, and even then the moves are sometimes hard to pull off

X had like the best summon system though, even though it was way OP

XII is my all time favourite game ^^

I (who wrote that article), really enjoy X-2. I consider it to be one of the best iterations of the ATB combat system.

I also really liked 12 for it's story and the political nature of its plot. At the same time, I considered it to be pretty weak in terms of gameplay.

i honestly dunno why X-2 is so hated anyways, i like it *shrug* and i can't judge for factions between X-2 and skyrim, cause i never played skyrim....i do want to play it eventually though

I have a theory as to why X-2 is so reviled by franchise fans.

The game does a LOT different compared to other Final Fantasy games. While the world and characters were mostly familiar, a lot of the concepts explored were hugely different from previous games in the franchise.

The story was of a significantly lighter tone that older games in the franchise, and had more of a "Charlie's Angels" feel.
The main cast was much more proactive in solving problems.
The vast majority of the game's content consists of side quests and optional missions.
Exploration and an open-ended nature were primary focuses of the game.

Whereas most FFs are generally fairly linear and closed, FF X-2 presented a bold experiment in terms of tone and gameplay. Unfortunately, some fans couldn't reconcile those differences, and the result was the backlash we saw.

Now that I think about it, a similar logic could be used to explain people's dislike of FF12.

different = not always bad. only FF game i played that i didn't like was 2, and that was cause its so damn complicated and hard to even get strong enough to get very far

Oh I agree. Different =/= bad. I'm just saying that's likely where the backlash came from.

Personally, I love X-2.

well, as long as its not TOO different. it can hardly be final fantasy without some world-saving quest, neh?

I didn't know FFX2 was hated :(

It's generally considered to be one if the worst of the franchise. I liked it simply because of the ability to revisit Spira, but it doesn't really hold its own as a FF game.

Also some spoilers:

I thought the final boss was ridiculous. It was just too over the top and crazy, and felt more like something out of Kingdom Hearts. I love Kingdom Hearts, but it felt out of place.

Generally speaking, the more recent a Final Fantasy game is, the more likely it is to be massively hated.

Well i had my troubles with FF-X2. But Actually, I have to accept that it shows us how Sin was holding the world together in a very creepy way.
The fact that there are three factions (though the al'behd really just want to get along) allows us to see both sides of a really fragmented world in the loss of a common enemy.

Even more importantly, unlike Skyrim where you have really hard ways to see the the cosmology according to the faction, i think the FFX-2 approach is closer to how they work in reality and allows us to know the past events that created those factions... in Skyrim thy are... "just there". like you have to accept that they ARE and they have been forever.

hen again not GREAT FF-X2 fan... but i MUST accept that after playing the HD remix i ACTUALLY think the story holds really nice, (if you have the HD remix, play the credits Only if you have played FFx and X2. MAYOR spoilers there! still awesome))
