The Adult/Male in me wants to try doing mature art...
The Kid/youth/prude in me wants to keep from doing so...
And the Competitiveness in me wants to see how long I can keep from making mature art...
Then there's the "moral" vs. the "its not really against my moral"... I mean if I don't have a problem looking at mature stuff, it shouldn't be a problem making it, right? Yet somehow I do...
Its been running around my mind way before my birthday... I did say, I would never draw/submit anything mature until I hit 18. So now what?
Most of my stuff is family friendly (and border lining older teen), and I can't imagine throwing naughty bits on my characters or placing them in "obscure" positions. I would never know if I could do it, unless I tried, but yet something stops me...
I would love another person's thought on this... Anything really. How did you start? Why did you start? Has much good come from it? Was there any downside to it??
Also new stuff on the way. Really soon...

I started like you..."should i try or not to do this kind of suff?". I gave it a try and i think its cool to do mature pics and clean pics (not that my style and drawings are so good).
Do a pic, and see what happens...i mean, see if you really like it, and what will be the other´s opinions, and see if you´re confortable with it or not.
Good luck! *hugs*
Thanks for the input though :D This'll take some more figuring that I thought...
But in my opinion you should at least give it a try
I started drawing it when I was around 10 or so, and I've had mixed feelings about it since the beginning. I got over those feelings by the time I was 18 or so, but I had a change of heart sometime around 25. I don't know why I started drawing it... probably because it was just new to me. I started early, so I didn't really go through the moral, "should I or shouldn't I" phase. I just kind of got sick of it after a while and did other things. These days, my interest in doing mature art seems to be directly tied to how serious I take art as a career, rather than just a hobby.
For some time, I haven't had any long-term ambitions to be a professional artist, so I just draw what I want, and only focus on things that will work for me in the short term (right now, that's working on my characters' hands and feet). Otherwise, for a career, I'd need to challenge myself with more important lessons. I think it's a given that a lot of people who start down the path of drawing mature art stop improving their skills, and that's a shame. Personally, I think that's the only downside for me, but your mileage may vary. If you're serious about your art, I wouldn't recommend getting involved in any "adult" art. It's not the stigma of doing mature artwork that could hurt you -- it's the lack of ambition that could eventually ruin your quality.
There's an audience for everything, so I generally don't worry about what other people will think of the things I draw. I do what I want and just hope other people like the things I do. I wouldn't stop drawing mature art because I thought some of my fans wouldn't like it. I do it whenever I think an idea has potential (and yes, it requires an actual idea. I don't do "just porn").
I also personally see an artist as someone who does things differently for the sake of being interesting. If you have some great new ideas, then go for it. If you don't think you can offer anything new (which most people don't), then focus on other types of content. For mature content, I tend to do more black comedy and drama. That stuff is more interesting to me than porn. I stay far away from violence, because for that type of content, I have nothing to offer.
I do it sparingly because I think I can do better, and if I draw it, I try to make it funny or at least in some way different from what other people are doing. It's not a moral issue for me. I just want to be different from everyone else.
If you really want to try it, draw it, then shelve it for a few weeks and take another look later. If you like what you see, consider posting it, and if not, throw it out. I rarely throw out any of my art, even terrible sketches, but I did destroy all my early porn when I was 15, because I just thought it looked awful. I kinda wish I hadn't done that, so I could look back and better understand how I started... and why.
Just remember, the Internet never forgets, so only do it if you feel it's something that you'd continue doing for any such reason. Trying to bury something you've done will draw far more attention to yourself than doing it regularly.
Simply I should just give it a try and see where it takes me. I'd also have to measure the pros and cons and see if its worth going through. I'm not even sure what I can bring into the "form" thats different from whats already out there. The only thing I'd have going for me is style, but style can only go so far without ideas (more importantly, original ideas).
Hmm... Well, no matter what I'll always do general art, but it may not hurt to step it up (or out in this case).
Thanks for your input and your words of experience, man.
If I can't stand looking at something a couple days after drawing it, I know very quickly I shouldn't post it for the whole world to see.
