When you get to be my age, you don't even acknowledge "New Years". You realize at some point it's just more of the same. I don't even pretend like this year is going to be any different than the last. Cynical, but true.

But yeah, I hope it'll be great and productive for you. I'm always looking forward to your art.

Yeah, I can admit that New Year's and Resolutions are more or less arbitrary. But at the same time, it gives everyone a clean enough starting point to move forward from. It might be hard to make the world change at the stroke of midnight, but at least we can push for our own self-improvement at any time~

Well, I'll offer a slightly less cynical view of New Year's.

Things stay the same only until they don't. I entered 2017 expecting to lose my health insurance and die. Instead, not only did I keep my health insurance, but I broke my 5-year streak of unemployment with my first permanent job! Something did indeed change in the weft and warp of my universe.

Each New Year is a promise that maybe you can change something for the better, and a time to assess all around you that you DO have - especially friends and loved ones, and be grateful for them. Some will just be disappointments, and they tend to be in the majority - but not all of them are.

As the great underground cartoonist (and utter misanthrope) Robert Crumb used to say, "Keep on truckin'." It's all any of us can do, and we aren't on the road alone.

I, for one, look forward to commissioning you again.

That's a fair take on it~ Yeah, any new year is what you make of it (at least what's within your control). And congrats on landing a permanent job!

And I know I keep saying "soon" when it comes to new commissions, but hopefully that "soon" is right around the corner, being the new year and all. :Y

Well, it's hardly life and death to commission you. You take all the time you need. If nothing else, know you have a customer so satisfied they're willing to become a repeat customer. That's what's important to me, not any given piece of art.

You've got 363 days, go for it ^^ plenty of time to try, fail, try again different, and succeed ^^

Hopefully there'll be more succeeding than failing in that time. V:
