The Machinist is an interesting psychothriller about a man,
who's terrible insomnia leads to his mental and emotional collapse
through hallucination etc.
But it has a happy ending haha

Brazil is a film about the future made in 1985.
Great social comment and beautiful surreal dream sequences.
There's alot of truth in this film.

Angel's Egg is a 2D animated film
about an unnamed girl who looks after a large egg
in a strange world. She later encounters a man, and they travel together.
Beautiful scenery, art style and symbolic value.
Only a handful of dialog in this movie, making the things said far more striking.
It is in japanese, so you might want subtitles.

I've only seen one of these (Machinist) but I'll slap those others onto my "to watch" list.
My personal favorite is probably American Pop. The music/animation is just gorgeously well done.
