I agree. Hell, we would be already colonizing other solar systems if not for the dark ages, a period where science was considered blasphemous and repressed by the church for almost 1000 years. Think how much further we would be.

Dark ages analogy is a little overplayed, seeing as its false notion to begin with. Science didn't stop for 10 centuries, hell if it wasn't for the rise of Christian Rome, who unlike pagan Rome, allowed the dissection of human bodies then we'd be behind in our understanding of our own bodies for one. The Renaissance didn't just spring from nowhere, it built momentum from the fall of Rome.
Not saying there wasn't oppression from the church but it wasn't as bad as pop culture makes it out to be.
